So the rules say they grant a warp spider exarch +1 atk, but not why.

Do you give the exarch his 2 attacks, +1 for 2 close combat weapons, and +1 for being powerblades (as they leave your hands free, thus granting greater mobility etc than 2 handheld weapons).

Or are the rules just stating that he gets the +1 atk for having 2 weapons as normal? Ie just pointing out the obvious. Keep in mind that they also point out the obvious fact that power weapons ignore armor.

This is probably ancient news, but as a newer playing I haven't encountered certain grey areas before.

I would say that the most reasonable reading of the rules is that "Powerblades" is a special close-combat weapon that both grants an extra attack and ignores armor saves, but that's my interpretation--it is a little unclear.

There's just an acre of you fellas, isn't there?

read the description of power blades on pg 36 of the eldar codex...it indicates that the power blades are a special weapon that confers a +1 attack and ignores armor saves. so you dont get the powerblades +1 and +1 for 2 ccw, as its already included in the weapon description

Incorrect. Nothing states it replaces the +1 attack for having *2* CCW, so it doesnt.

If you have 2 CCW then you gain +1 A, and this is almost never included in profiles.

To be honest, I think it's another case of loose wording. The way it's written, while it doesn't state it directly, I would take the +1 attack bit as referring to the fact that they are two power weapons.

There's certainly a RAW argument for the alternative, though.

True but you are never told in the rules that power blades are 2 Special CCWs; you are told in the fluff that they are twin power weapons, but that doesn't exactly mean anything.

The Rules for it are written in a ... clunky manner, and show the age of the codex(I believe it was written pre-5th, but in the 5th format?)

At any rate the last line should have been: "A model with Power blades counts as being equipped with 2 power weapons."

As it is now they are 1 weapon with the rules that a model equipped with them gets +1 attack and ignores armor saves.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

It was the first 5th ed style, just very clunky.

First 5th edition style, but still 4th edition codex.

Treat all weapons like "per entry" and you'll be a lot saner.

I really need to stay away from the 40K forums.

Maybe I should have had a poll with this thread heh.

I think I'm (sadly) gonna have to agree that they just give the standard +1 for having two CCWs.
I applaud that a codex tries to give you all the info in one place (and you don't have to look at 3 different places in the core rules to get a clear picture), but definately confusing when its not the norm.

But I also think that it makes more sense to get 2 additional +1 atks, considering the warp spider exach has 2 free limbs and 2 CCWs. You don't see trygons having less attacks cause they need to hold their drink or something. I mean whats he doing? scratching himself?

Why is it so hard to accept that they provide +1 attack for being power blades (which is what it says) instead of for having 2 CCWs.

Nothing with powerblades has even one CCW and can't take one.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

This. The exarch doesn't even have a CCW before the powerblades upgrade. If it didn't say that they were twin power weapons that gave you an extra attack and ignore armour saves, then people would be arguing just like they do with Khan in the SM codex. It's a fluff description followed by a rules definition. Unfortunately WS exarchs are not as awesome as they used to be.
