Subject: [2500] Reserve 'Nids
|

Moustache-twirling Princeps

So, in my yearning for close-combat, I have contemplated Blood Angels, Daemons, and Tyranids. That being said, I am leaning towards 'Nids, just because part of me is itching to prove they can compete (doubtful?) and I like the fact they are not Spehss Mahreens, which I see all too many of in my shop (that is the metagame, basically).
Anyhow, this is an "All Comers" list idea with an emphasis on Reserves. I am hoping to deploy out the Tyrant in a cloud of Gargoyles, then pod in the Zoanthropes to bust tanks, while the Trygons come up to cause general fright. The Tervigons will sit pretty on objectives and crank out critters. The minimum Termagants squads are going to go-to-ground on home objectives as well. The Genestealers will hopefully funnel folks into the middle and when they do hit combat, the Broodlord will go for ICs.

So, what do you think? Competitive?
I know jack about 'Nids and have yet to see much done with them at my shop. This idea I had really discussed with a former 'Nids player way back when the Codex first released, but hadn't seen much from the bugs since.
Any and all constructive criticism would be much appreciated!

Tunneling Trygon

I'd maybe swap 1 zoanthrope brood for 3 hive guard - also slightly cheaper and can shoot from behind cover. Good way to pop transports before the pods drop in.
The 2 trygons fit with reserve/drop pod feel of the list as do the stealers and flyrant.
On a personal choice, I don't particularly like the tervigons - I feel they are a bit overdone. For the cost of the gaunts and 2 tervigons you can almost run another stealer brood and 3rd trygon - maybe just drop 1 stealer to pay for it. Maybe not the perfect tournament list, but 3 trygons, 3 stealer broods, gargoyles, flyrant, 3 zoanthrope broods is a fast and hard hitting list and should be fun to play ...

No, NO TERVIGONS!
Actually, you may want to consider a Carnifex with Adrenal Glands and Bio-Plasma. Give it a Mycetic Spore if you want.

Still not a great fan of the tervigon spam, but as long as you use the gaunts to screen the hive guard so they don't get picked out then I suppose it works.
Personally, I'd go rending claws and adrenal glands rather than scything talons on the stealers. Watch them rip up rhinos on the charge!
Maybe look at at least one trygon as a prime for the containment spines/synapse.
If you don't go tervigon's then go 3* trygon prime, another genestealer brood, attach a tyranid prime to the hive guard with bonesword and lash whip (as they are going to be sat somewhere on their own - lashwhip brings initiative down to 2 so gives hive guard chance to hit back).

This list is trying to do 2 things which isn't good with the current codex. The reserve idea is better and I feel your list would work far better if you commit to that.
So:
Drop the Tervigons, Gargoyles and Hive Guard.
Ensure all your troops choices are either Genestealers or Devourer Gaunts in Spods with potentially 1 Hormagaunt brood (allowed to outflank due to HC).
Other than that I'm not convinced that you really need more than 1 Broodlord unless you're bringing the Doom.
I'd also aim to have a 5th serious MC so probably doubling up on flyrants. That way everything is deployed in reserve and you're giving away no easy targets. It also means you're likely to have 3 MCs arrive on the same turn and that will cause most armies a real problem.

Having Scything Talons on the Genestealers doesn't replace their Rending Claws. Although I'd still say Adrenal Glands are worth it.
And FlingItNow, you have forgotten the cream of the Tyranid Troops section: Tyranid Warriors!
