If you take a 3 man wolf guard squad split them out into other squads are you still limited to 2 elites choices or as the squad no longer exists could you take 3 other elite slots?

FOC rquirements are prior to the game.

Wolf Guard are not split up into other squads until deployment. So you have to have a maximum of 3 elites in your list at this point.

Short answer: no.

Only way to keep your elites slots is to take logan (then you loose troop slot instead)

While Correct; this is not technically correct.

FOC requirements are involved at army selection, Wolf guard are split before the game.

Everything actually goes 1 step further back.
