I know the rule book says about close combat morale, but when my rhino blew up and killed some of my friends guardsmen in close combat it made him drop below 50% I said he had to take a moral check, he said that he was locked in close combat so he didn't. Who was right here I'm really confused.

Yes, they should have had to take a good look at their sinful lives. The word you are looking for is MORALE.

In all seriousness they don't. Read page 44, esp. the section about casualties then read it again just to make sure.

If they were locked in combat with another unit, then they would not have to take a morale test.

If they fall under 50% outwith close combat, they dont necessarily need to test for morale - only if they suffer more than 25% casualties in a single phase.

Ethics in close combat?

Grimtuff is right, check page 44 of the rulebook. Any unit locked in combat doesn't have to take morale tests for suffering 25% casualties.

I think if the combat involved Slanesh then a Moral test would be called for.

You missed one And don't mind us, it's a common typo. Much like love saves and tanks firing laws at people.

The better question is what happens during a multi-assault with guardsmen, a chimera, and say a bunch of Ork. The Ork multi-assault the Guardsmen and the Chimera. The Chimera gets destroyed in the assault and explodes killing models from both sides. Do those causalities get added to find out the winner of combat?

Answer is in here.
"Q: In a multiple combat involving opposing vehicles and
non-vehicle units are wounds caused by the Destroyed –
Explodes! result on the Vehicle Damage table counted
towards the combat total? (p63)
A: Yes all wounds caused in this way will count. Unsaved
wounds caused to enemy models will count to your
combat total and unsaved wounds caused to friendly
models will count to your opponents combat total."
