So the question is posed as simply as I can put it.

In one end of the arena: 2x Wolf Claws give you an additional attack and allow you to re-roll to hit or wound.

On the other end: Frost Blade (We'll assume you're taking a Storm Shield) will end up with no additional attacks; however, you have to ability to re-roll both to hit and to wound.

With that said...which is better?

It depends. are we talking a wolf lord, or one who runs in a pack of GH or a pack of WG?

Math hammer says wolf claws. I like the blade though, it has a good psycolodical effect in whehicels. If you do take saga of the beastslayer and you like to hun dreadnoughts get melta bombs and a wolf tail talisman. You now hit on 3+ with rerolls.

The frost blade wins outright in a vacuum. simply because its cheaper than 2 wolf claws and a pistol gives an extra attack. Then again it depends on what context. The wolf claws become better as the guy wielding it has higher WS and S (Wolf Lord).

A 2xclaws, belt of Russ -65
B Frosty, SS, SoB-65

Feel that the Belt is needed to keep option A kicking, now it depends on your meta. Mine is full of MeQ but light on dreads. A would work best for me, if you have nid problems or walkers etc B might be best

Around my area, there's the fun times of Nob Bikers, Monstrous Creature Heavy 'Nid Lists, Plague Marine, Biker Lists so on and so forth.

I figured I should have prefaced the situation with that said...

If your going to make a killer, you make a killer first then use what points are left for the rest of your army.

The real issue is S5 with a reroll vs S6. Both can get +1 attack if necessary depending on what you buy.

Against T4, 3+ with reroll is better than 2+ on the to wound rolls. However, Against T3 its even a closer wash, but there are some multi wound T3 models where the S6 will insta-gib them.

At T8 both need 6s to wound, the reroll will better your odds. Also against transports S6 is doing something 50% of the time where S5 is only 33% and you don't get your reroll.

So it really depends on what your fighting. I also feel that your one Saga of the Beastslayer is better placed on a Rune priest with Living Lightning for downing walkers and MCs.

As I'm typing this I'm wondering about putting a single lightning claw and a frost blade on my TW lord. I sacrifice one attack (made up by Saga of warrior borne) and now have options for all contingencies.

I'm a fan of twin WC's for the reasons above, the rerolls will often rule the day. However, they usually need that belt of russ, and if you're after MC's- you want that invul and/or saga of the bear.

However, beastslayer gets a reroll too, don't forget. In this case, I recommend the FB/ shield as you will wound more, have a better invul and still re-roll, for the prive of one attack. WC's are undoubtedly more versatile though, against other foes.

3 questions:

1) Is he on the damned thunderwolf or not?

2) How many points will you be sinking into him?

3) Will he be hunting only MC's and do anybody of these have I5 or better?

If you go the full wolf lord on the wolf, then he needs the shield, because you are wasting to many points for a +4 save.

If so the wolf gives him more str. I think the claw wins mathematicaly in a straight fiight (remember you get re-rolls from both the claw and the saga, so you can re roll to hit and to wound.) If he shall be hunting tanks, the sword is better.

If he is hunting just a lott of MC's, then perhaps the good old thunderhammer is best.

Of course, if you are fielding him on a wolf with all of the above a squad of wolf riders would almoast be just as good and cost about the same.

Wolf Clas only grant you one re-roll, you have to choose. Beastslayer allows re-roll to hit and wound. Why am I asking this? I know the Math hammer for the Wolf Claw vs. Frost Blade straight up are better with the instances being single weapons; however, when you start looking at 2x Wolf Claws as compared to a Frost Blde with Beastslayer against T5 and higher, I'm curious to see which will come out on top.

S6 plus rerolls on to hit and to wound vs S5 with rerolls on only one or the other. The extra attack granted by x2 wolf claws will not cover the reroll.

However, while good and all, what happens when you go up against horde ork, all jump pack BA, most Guard armies. Granted there is a lot of T5 stuff out there, but sometimes you just wont get much out of it. The value of Beastslayer is totally dependant on what the other guy brings to the table. X2 wolfclaws is always useful no matter what shows up.

Eh, well this is just for one Lord of 3...was trying to finalize the kit on him for well roundedness. I have one TH/SS, 1 Frost Blade/Storm shield with Beastslayer and one that was either going to be Canis or 2x Wolf Claw Lord...Figure Canis can do the Lawn Mowing while the other 2 take on big nasties.

You only get to reroll (or is it re-roll?) the to hit roll with beastslayer, not the damadge as well. So if you take the wolf claw you can use the claw to reroll the damadgeroll. Sooo...errr.

If you are on the wolf and need a to damdge a T6 then you have 3/6 chanche with the blade, or 18/36 if you want. And with the wolf claw is is first 2/6 and then 20/36 after the rerolls, so the wolf claws winn by a bit.

IIRC, the beastslayer allows both rerolls, not just to hit... that's why their so good with rune priests, and it is used in range and assault.

Beastslayer does allow both re-rolls.

Yeah, Goatboy and I share many of the same ideas when it comes to Space Wolves.

What? Not to sound like a jerk but my codex says that saga of the beastlayer lets you reroll against MCs T5 and Walkers. But only on the to hit roll.

You are right, now that I check. Didn't have the 'dex out before...

Still, I think the only way to go is with the SS, be it WC or FB.

This is the way I look at my Wolf Lord Armament.
1. On foot, w/JP, or w/Bike the Lord gets a SS/FB Saga.
2. On TWM the Lord gets SS/FB Saga if he is the only Lord.
3. 2 Lords on TWM one gets SS/FB the other gets 2 WC w/ Belt of Russ.
What I am getting at is my first choice is always a SS/FB with a Saga but the 2WC Belt of Russ build is my second choice so it isn't bad either.

Generally speaking I prefer Saga of the Bear, but that's because my dice hate me and I need to be immune to instant death!
