I haven't played 40K in about 3 years and I'm trying to get back into the game. I used to play Black Templars and have a fairly large army (about 3000 points). I don't really care for the BT codex with the 5th edition rules. Do you think anyone would have a problem with me using my Templars but building a list from the SM codex? I don't see a problem as long as I mention that I'm playing them as vanilla marines. There are too many cool toys in the SM dex and I don't see any benefit of running an army with the BT codex.

What is wrong with the 5th edition rules? target priority? Black Templars are pretty tough, no matter what edition you are using, so why waste the time of having them if you're not going to play them as such?

Blood Angels might be closer to the BTs and they have some pretty fun toys too. Although you're gonna get a bunch of people calling cheese though.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

When I'm editing alot, you know I have a gakload of homework to (not) do.

I use my templars as standard codex marines and Black Templars. Just tell new people what you're doing and you're fine.

Welcome back and best of luck!

Just play them with the standard C:SM. I have a gaming buddy here who runs Dark Angels painted models with the SM codex. Works pretty good, if I do say so myself. No ones going to complain if you say right at the beginning 'I'm playing Space marines. I just painted them like Black Templars.'
