The sink.

Anyone tried this game? I've recently become interested in historical gaming, and this system seems to be quite popular.

I've got it. I like it. I've played it a bit. I'm not playing at the moment as my armies are all in long term storage.

The rules do not seem to have got the same level of market domination that good old WRG Ancients, and DBA did in their time. They do have a strong following, though.

There are several sets which are pretty widely played.

FoG
DBA (small armies, quick playing)
DBMM
Impetus
WHAB

The good thing is, the base sizes for all the games except WHAB are the same, so you can use an army with any set of rules, except you would need to make some adjustments in WHAB.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Got it... Didnt like it.

Moved to Impetus instead. Far better in my view.

got it.. but will be selling all books, seems unnecessarily complicated and too detailed, bogging game down..

I was disapointed with FoG -- I was hoping it would be much cleaner and simpler than DBM and it really wasn't

I disagree. I played DBM for years and the game is a long 4 hour process and looks nothing like a historical battle.

FoG on the other hand, actually looks and feels like you are in the middle of a historical battle, at least in my opinion. I would at least give it a whirl and see how you like it.
