The Hover rule for Tomb Spyders says:

"Tomb Spyders move by gravitic propulsion but far more ponderously than airborne Necrons like Destroyers. They move and assault in the same manner as normal models on foot, even though they hover low above the ground."

I rarely use them, but when I do, it seems there are a few different ways people read into it. How exactly would you play this? I play it as they move exactly like any other monstrous creature. I've had people that say the same except they can move over terrain, that they move exactly like infantry (being the most "normal" movement type), or a combination of the two. The problem I have with my read on it, is why make the rule in the first place, as that's how they would move by default regardless of what the model looks like.

The rule says that they move like normal models. So they move like normal models.

The fact that the model is on a flight stem is just for show.

I agree with the flight stem thing, but define normal models...in other words, would it retain Move Through Cover for being a monstrous creature (as that is what would be normal for it), or would you define normal as moving as infantry, thus losing Move Through Cover? That's more the issue I've had trouble with.

It moves asa normal model, which is an Infantry model, as all other models are based on changes to how Infantry works.

It maintains MTC as that is normal for an Infantry Monstrous Creature.

Disappointing but understandable.

EDIT: wait, I just reread that...so my interpretation was correct, just in a round-a-bout fashion.

The hover rule has a purpose; it is there to explain that although the model looks like it should move as a jetbike or Jump Infantry, it does not.

It actually helps to alleviate confusion by players who want to assume the model would use rules that it does not have just because of how the model looks(This happens extremely often). I actually think this is one of GWs better "superfluous" rules. the rule is superfluous because the rule states the model is a model of it's type, but then is not as much because of aesthetic assumptions.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.

honestly i hate the tomb spyder ... I tend to forget it's a MC ... The necrons are becoming a bit dated in both looks and rules ... however gauss weapons are friggin annoying

Normal models are those that follow the normal movement rules. Jetbikes and Skimmers follow movement rules that are different to normal.

Yes. It's defined as a Monstrous Creature, so it follows the Monstrous Creature rules.

It doesn't get to ignore terrain as it moves, because it's not defined as any sort of Unit Type that can ignore terrain as it moves, and is explicitly stated to follow the normal movement rules... which include moving through terrain and rolling for distance. Suitably modified in this case by the MC rules.

Yeah, I get that, but it just seems clearer for me to just leave it without anything. It's a monstrous creature so unless something said otherwise, it would move as such, regardless of how the model looked. Then again, I could see people complaining if it wasn't there so /shrug.
