Thinking of Joining a Davinite Loge

Overall a nice little article. I like the bit about explaining the hobby and dealing with girls! My GF is pretty accepting of my geeky hobby (actually I have too many geeky hobbies, I am an EE major after all!). I also agree with the bit about it only being a game for the most part. I am going to play to win (it is human nature) but not at the expense of my opponents fun by bending/exploiting the rules. There are times that I become a bit annoyed with my rolling because I can't catch a break. But for the most part I laugh off some bad rolling. I have a couple times recently where I laughed off some bad rolling! Once was a terminator libby had to take 3+ invuln and a 2+ armor save and he failed them both and died! The other funny one was an IG sniper hit, rended, penned, and exploded a rhino after failing an obscure save! Those were some funny moments! Along those same lines, I hate playing against people who whine over everything. I had a guy crush and then slam his Rune Priest down because I hit the guy with a demolisher cannon after my opponent had split him off from a squad. I am not going play stupid just because my opponent does! The same guy also crushed a plasma cannon long fang after it got hot and killed himself. I disagree the most on armies section. Should you bring a WAAC list to friendly games? I don't think you should, but should I play a fluffy bunny list that loses everytime? I take the same list I run at tournaments to a friendly game, and with the exception of 1 person, everyone has taken it well. It is a fairly strong Vulkan list that has an exploitable weakness (I have no long range AT fire). With the list I run, I win probably 85 - 90 percent of the games I play but it is not unbeatable and more times than not it comes down to the wire making for a fun exciting game on both sides of the table.

Hey, sorry I took so long to reply, I'm new to the site and I didn't realize there was a comments section on the article.
I tutor as a job, and the article was inspired by a kid I tutor who was scared to tell his gf he played 40k. (He eventually did tell her, and she didn't care). I just thought this site had some really great advice about all the other aspects of the hobby, but the social aspect had missed out a bit.
Thanks for the feedback

One thing that I've found helps my non nerdy friends accept my hobby is showing them an infantry model first. They were so amazed that I could paint on such a small scale that they spent about ten minutes just fascinated by it. Afterword once they were in awe of what they took to be my amazing brush skill, it was a lot easier to explain what it was I did for fun. Also
