Hey guys, I've been toying with the idea of switching my primer base to a grey tone, so what I need are suggestions and reviews of primers.
Now what I would like is any info you have, so good or bad let me know. Now I've said UK just because I know you yanks have a candy shop of brands that us Brits sadly lack, that said if you know of one that is possibly available in Blighty let me know. Thanks chaps and chapesses in advance.

Humbrol spray acrylics come in a multitude of colours, locally about £4.50 a can.
Tamiya do similar spray cans, but a bit more expensive.

Halfords Grey Primer.

Both me and my dad use their Black/white/Grey primers (he does planes) and they come out a treat.

i sprayed mine at-3* (manchester) last night, and the results were liek this :

all the white you see there is straight out the can!
£6 a can, but worth it, IMO

Thanks for the feedback guys, with both the humbrol and the Tamiya the only thing putting me off is the price. Its £4.50 but that is only for 140ml iirc. The halfords brand I will have a look at, what is the size of can though? 400ml or less?

Another brand I have been looking at is Simoniz grey primer, its an automotive primer but I was wondering if anyone had come across or heard anything about this brand?

Halfords primer is 6.99 for 500ml. I've used it for a few years after switching from humbrol and tamiya, not had any problems.

Plasti-kote no.10601 Grey metal primer.

Works great on metal or plastic models.

I use it for nearly everything.

Available from B&Q DIY stores.

Used to use Halfords 'Satin Black' (the matte one) worked fine. My dad uses Halfords and he is the best Steam train model engineer in the Biz... Was ace for tanks. Had to be a bit more careful around infantry but if you can get decent coverage with GW stuff or whatever you were using you should be fine.

Right well I think that is pretty conclusive I'll grab some of halfords sprays and give them a whirl.

@Killkrazy - thanks for the info on the Plasti-cote, my girlfriend owns an art store and they sell some of the Plasti-cote range so I'll look into that as well.

A massive thank you too everyone who has contributed. I'll let you know how I get on
