First off I would like to thank everyone who takes the time to read this. Basically, I have come to the conclusion that it is time I start my SM army. I have been playing Guard since 3rd edition, but this Christmas my present to myself will be an AoBR box, and possibly a few more models. However my concerns are that I might not get what I am looking for out of this box. Since I have played nothing but shooty guard over the years I would like to take a more assault orientated look at my SM Army. And since that is overall my goal of my SM army, I really am not sure if this box is suited for that. As far as chapter I am also torn on this matter. Please correct me if I am mistaken, but Black Templar an Blood Angels are really the main assault orientated chapters out there. And while BA is some what competitive, I am not sure at all about the competitiveness of BT.

So I guess my questions are the following:

For an assault orientated SM army would AoBR be the best buy?
What chapter would best be suited for the job? (I really do not with to run a DIY Chapter)
I like the idea of Drop Pods, how effective are they when it comes to tournament lists?
With what I stated above, how would you go about building an army from 750 scaling all the way to 2000?

I am sure more questions will arise as this goes on, but for now this is it. Once again thank you.

Grix.

AoBR is a great buy to start off your army. It gives you a Dreadnought, Terminators, a ten man Tactical Squad and a Commander. If you wish to start an assault army, the Space Marine Battleforce is a great buy as it comes with a Rhino, 15 Tactical Marines, 5 Assault Marines with Jump Packs, and a 5 man Scout unit. As for armies, BA are more assault oriented than the SW and SM Codices. BA allows you to field Assault Troops with JP as Troops, you can field Dreadnoughts under HS, Elites, and Troops depending on what specific job you wish for it to perform and Land Raiders are under the Dedicated Transport category. Also theyre are rumors of a Stormraven model coming out February of next year for the BA and that is a devastating vehicle only BA can field

Even if you're doing an assault-heavy army, you need troops to hold objectives. Tactical Marines are great for this. For assault roles, you can run assault Marines and Assault Terminators. The regular Terminators in Black Reach can fight in close combat pretty respectably too.

As for chapter - Raven Guard use a lot of scouts and jump packs. If you want to go pure close combat, you may be better off with all-Assault Marine Blood Angels, or some Space Wolves. Up to you duder.
