So I'm playing my buddy's salamanders tomorrow. He is going to be packing in a land raider redeemer, a terminator squad and a Vulkan in a 1k list, which is a lot of points on a unit and tank/transport. I need a way of dealing with his tank, I also have very limited resources. No lootas, though against AV14 not sure they will do much. I am thinking of fielding this list to make the game at least interesting.

The idea is to have the koptas imoblize and get some weapon destroyed results and let the Sluggas with the PK Nob along with the Warboss and his PK get into close combat and destroy it. I'm not really looking for a great counter to his list I just want it to be a fun game but not make it to the point where I can't do anything and have a miserable time.

So I played the game today, I took the 2nd list. It went well but I could not hurt the tank. I fired rokkits into it, I tried buzz saws but was told furious charge occurs after the double the strength from them so they were useless. I assaulted it with power klaws and my warboss was able to get a crew stunned result. So I don't know if tankbustas might be a good option or what would be a better way to go against AV 14.

You have my sympathy with dealing with AV 14 as my opponent take 2 landraiders in <--1500pts games...

Dont bother wasting rokkits shots or deff kopters on the landraiders they just dont do the job your best bet is to throw a warboss with a PK at the LR or ram it with deffrollers of both options I like the Deffroller one the best instant d6 Strengh 10 hits will feth up anything with out a saving throw and make your opponent cry.

Another plan is to ignore the LRs and just hold objectives and conentrate on killing his scoring units as I doubt he has more then 2 squads of 5 at those point levels.

Once his scoring units are dead its insta win for you =)

Damn I cant wait to the GW legal team codex comes out now there is a dex that will conquer all.

WTH had AV 14 in CC? Monolith.
Is there anything else it could be?

Anyway. VS the dreaded AV 14, you typically want CC units with power klaws, as they will attack the rear armor.
Rear armor 10 vs Warboss with PK = every hit penetrates.
RA 12 = 2s glance, the rest penetrate.
RA 14 = 4s glance, 5 & 6 penetrate. So possible, but not exactly easy.

Nobs are str 4 right? so they're 1 behind the warboss in terms of rolls (4x2 = 8.. then +1 for charge = 9).

Im not THAT well learned on the HUGE amount of tactics etc of orks just yet, but I'd say those are your best bet.

Lootas are quite good vs AV 10-12 vehicles due to their number of shots and crazy huge ranges.

Were you hitting the rear armor? Unless its a walker you always resolve hits vs rear armor when assaulting.

Land Raiders are AV14 all around, in which case most of the options mentioned wouldn't be that effectual.

Hey, I mentioned the PKs. Heh.

I didn't want to comment on ramming as couldn't remember the rules exactly off the top of my head, but am home with my BRB now.

Sure the deffrolla will do some serious damage (d6 x 10, and each gets an AP roll), but the battle wagon would also deal 4 (front armor -10) + inches travelled + 1 for being a tank str hit to the LR. This is important as the LR will deal the exact same amount back to the battle wagon.
So theres a linear increasing chance that the ram move will score an AP hit on itself if it rams more than just 2 inches.
You'll get heaps on the LR, and it'll get one against you, so just keep in mind you could lose the BW.

On the flipside, as I mentioned before, a warboss with PK will deal 5x str 10 attacks on the charge. Probably more than your deffrolla + ram. Just getting them there is the real challenge.

If you drop a deffkopta and 8 shoota boyz, you can take a battle wagon w deffrolla and put those 20 in it.
If you drop 1 other boy (I'd vote a shoota from the other squad) you can give the BW a big shoota or red paint.
Drop 1 more and the shootas in the BW 2x big shootas as well.
Pretty sure that matherises out to exactly 1000 still.

At the 1000 point level, even possibly suicide ramming with a ~120 point vehicle to take out a quarter of your opponents points is a damn good trade off.

Professionals are predictable, it's the amateurs that are dangerous.

More of a matter of opinion that a fact .
3 rokkits seems like a shaky idea given the fact that boyz shoot like....well...boyz, however 3 str 8 ap 3 shots allows a whole slew of
more options that a myriad of str 5 shots. The idea behind ork shooting is number of shots. HOWEVER. when the number of shots available
is low you turn to making those shots that hit . COUNT. Killing a marine or two. and having some shooting that can break a rhino (therefore opening the contents of
said vechile to your green lovins) is something id take over a gun that wounds marines on 3's and bounces off their armor save.
Sometimes its just in the dice. One game my rokkits hit 3 times and destroyed a vindicator turn one, another game they never hit. You
cant put dice rolls into the equation with orks. Its just not plausable.
