Converting a Right Handed Powerfist from a left handed one?

I'm planning a Marneus Calgar conversion with some leftover pieces I have, which include a SM commander and a few power fists and leftover bolter bitz and some plasticard. However I need a Right handed Powerfist, which has to also be a plain one (i.e: not ornate with any chapter symbols), which only the Assault Squads have. I dont wanna shell out 40 something bucks for a box of 5 marines I'm never going to use (dislike Assault squads because they're too squishy for the points you pay. Bikes are much better) just to get that one fist, so I was wondering if anyone knew of how to convert a left-handed one into a right hnaded one. I'd assume it involve some cutting and trimming on the thumbs, but the fist is very uneven for this type of conversion. I have alot of fists I can use, since I converted a bunch of AoBR termies into Chaos Terminators with Power weapons. I've searched around, but only found one tutorial for a mutated Powerfist for CSM. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, and I'll post the Calgar kitbash as soon as I finish converting it.

It should not be a very difficult task to switch the fists. The hardest part will probably be removing the metal fist, but I guess it just depends on your skill. Maybe kitbash and just use two spare PFs.

I've done so before.

Just use a knife to cut off the thumb and stick it on the other side. That's how I did it, at least, worked well enough for me. (note, this won't work if the thumb is attached to the fist.

Cut off the thumb and glue it to the other side? Might have to e a bit more complicated than that but...

Are the fingers all the same length?

The middle finger seems to be of a longer length than the others, and the pinky is a tad bit smaller. That's my main concern. The contours of the fist also seems to fit that.

Also I'm not cutting up the actual Calgar. This conversion will contain no pieces from either Calgar models.

have him punching an ork in the stomach. That would solve the finger issue because they'd be impedded in the ork.

I would be tempted to lop off the fingers and make new ones in the correct order, the thumb should be okay as you intended to use it.

my sculpting skills are not good enough for fine edges. However I can concievably lop off all of the fingers and separate them and reglue them in the right order.

If you have a REALLY sharp scalpel and are REALLY careful, this is literally all you need to do.

Edit: I am thinking of the CSM basic set powerfist with the extended thumb. Like in this conversion. A clenched fist is going to be a royal pain in the ass due to the exaggerated finger sizes. If you want that, I'd reccomend buying a strip of GS and making your own.

Rockin. You are gonna need a modeling scalpel and a #11 xacto blade if you want to remove the finger with enough detail to reglue it. Worst case scenario is that you may need to make a curled thumb out of GS which isn't terribly hard. ALso, make sure to remove nonsymetrical bitz from the sides of the fist. That'll help conceal the difference in size between the fingers. I have a converted powerfist and lightning claw somewhere if you'd like me to put up pics.

Powerfist with a curled thumb and shortened first digit. The thumb looks pretty horrible, but the finger turned out nicely.

This was more about making a clean cut to remove powerfist fingers....then I just glued them onto a lightning fist that I'd cut the claws off of as practice on getting clean single cut lifts on small detail areas.

I tried what you said and The power fist actually came out looking great! If you look closely you can tell it's a cut'n paste job, but otherwise from the back and sides it looks right. I'll post some pics in the morning.

You could get one of these for less then $4 shipped. Seems like way less work. You can even easily file off the skull.

Actually the entire effort of cutting off a thumb and fixing the hand took a total of 5 minutes. it's not that hard actually. Plus, the Terminator that I got the fist from costed me 4 bucks. XD

Please jebus, don't do it. I hate the way those things look.

P.S. Its easy to convert chaos lightning claws into right handed powerfists with nothing but a trim of the hoses and spikes that festoon the surface. There is no iconography left over, so you could prolly pull it off on Loyalist models pretty easy.
