As far as i can tell there isn't many units that can take one, scout bikers and characters on bikes. Has any body actually used this, and how well have they done with it? I initially dismissed it, since I keep my characters cheap, and never considered scout bikers. Then I got to thinking about how powerful a rapid fire krak grenade in a unit that has the deployment options that scout bikers have. I mean S6 isn't the greatest, but in a unit like this is it not possible to get solid side shots with a good volume of S6? It is a tactic that eldar makes good use of, why not try it with SM? (yes I know about the 4+save, BS3, and expensive cost, eldar have all these too, and much lower toughness and somehow manage). Or alternatively, trying for the frag at S3 with 6 shots sounds like it could put a bunch of wounds on a unit (and mitigate some of the BS issue).

it's an interesting option to give a character that ditches his other ranged weapons for some CC things. if you take a Captain or Chapter master with a Relic Blade and SS he doesn't have any ranged attacks.

you can give him this weapon to give him something to shoot.

it can also be fired in addition to other weapons so even if he does have a gun he can fire both. a Frag Blast or Krak shot can be a nice little extra bit of fire power.

on bikers they could zip around for side and rear shots with Krak pretty handly. i would only do it in a full bike army though. Cluster mines are what you really get out of Scout bikers.

Characters on Bikes cannot get the Astartes Grenade launcher. They can get an Auxiliary Grenade Launcher, which is not the same thing.(Different Ranges, and Different Weapon Classes, one is assault, the other Rapid Fire).

Characters on Bikes keep their twin linked Bolters, So a Bike with a TH/SS, or pair of lightning Claws is a good Idea(Ranged and CC attacks, where you can only normally get the CC attacks; unless of course you take an Auxiliary GL).

Templar: Bikers can only Fire one gun per Rider(unless the Character is also equipped with the Auxiliary GL, which can be fired in addition), So Scout Bikers cannot fire the Astartes GL and their Pistols.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

On scout bikes the grenade launcher is a good idea. There is no situation i can think of where the bolter would be better. It's a pretty cheap upgrade too, but whether or not it's worth it depends on what else you're fielding of course

PM me! Let's play a game!

Ah, didn't catch that the character one was only assault 1 and lower range. TY. 15 points for a single S6 shot doesn't sound like the greatest deal now. Why give the assault rule to the one, and the rapid fire rule to the other? Bikes are relentless, so it doesn't matter if it is RF. I'll just put the auxiliary launcher on the cool idea, bad pricing.

The scout bikers are looking more and more tempting, even if they are 30 points each with launchers, their special rules might be worth the trade off in the right list.

however, the character CAN fire his launcher and another weapon if he wants.

My Chapter master has a Power Sword, Chainsword, and Auxiliary GL. This allows him an attack better than the bolt pistol before the assault, and a bonus attack in the assault phases.

The rapid Fire for the Astartes GLs makes sense as well considering they are Bike mounted, with a drum, vs the Auxiliary which is supposed to be just a grenade tube(like the underslung grenade launcher on an M16)

you know, if you changed that Chainsword into a Bolt pistol you would get an extra shot before charging in with the same amount of attacks.

Yeah, but when I built(and painted) the model I hadn't noticed the "in addition to" part.

Although I think the model's arm had broken off recently, so I might be able to put on a spare SW Bolt Pistol Arm.

just out of curiosity, what do you use to represent the Grenade Launcher?

Honestly, I used the obvious half of the scout bikes launcher and put on his left shoulder all predator style. Since a full 10 scount bikes gives you alot of extras, I am waiting to decide if I want a really decked out honor guard squad with them as well.
