Subject: Un-DakkaDakka-y Tyranid 2500 point list.

Note: the list has been revised since I last posted this. Ignore this iteration of the list, and look a bit further down the thread for the new version.
HQ:
1 Hive Tyrant with Stranglethorn Cannon, Lash Whip + Bonesword, Adrenal Gland, Paroxysm and Leech Essence: 200 points.
2 Tyrant Guard: 120 points. Incidently, I will be kit-bashing my Tyrant Guard, as the legs on the current Tyrant Guard don't fit into the hip sockets properly. Plus, as much as I like them (imperfect casting aside) they look more like linebraker beasts than living shields.
Elites:
3 Zoanthropes: 180 points. Might split this unit into 3 individual Zoanthropes.
Troops:
5 Tyranid Warriors, 4 with Deathspitters, 1 with Barbed Strangler: 180 points.
4 Tyranid Warriors, 3 with Deathspitters, 1 with Venom Cannon: Umm....Can't remember.
20 Termagaunts with Devourers: 200 points.
20 Termagaunts with Devourers: 200 points. And no, I am not taking Tervigons, as there's no telling that I won't just spawn 3 Termagaunts and then run out of larvae. Plus, there's no model, and the Termagaunts they spawn allways carry Fleshborers.
20 Hormagaunts with Toxin Sacs: 160 points.
20 Hormagaunts with Toxin Sacs: 160 points.
Fast Attack:
20 Gargoyles: 120 points.
4 Raveners with Devourers and Rending Claws: 160 points.
Heavy Support:
Flopsy-1 Carnifex with Adrenal Gland and Bio-Plasma: 190 points. Do not even THINK about saying a word against Carnifexes.
Mopsy-1 Trygon Prime: 240 points.
Cottontail-1 Trygon Prime: 240 points. I would have given them Adrenal Glands, but I have already assembled 1 of them without Adrenal Glands, and I'm NOT wasting 27 pounds. And it wouldn't make sense to give 1 of them an Adrenal Gland and leave the other naked.
Criticism welcomed!

I'm not a fan of raveners. I've always found them to be too squishy, even if they come in through a trygon hole, although YMMV. I'd suggest dropping them and adding in a unit of 3 hive guard for ranged anti-tank.

Hive Guard? HIVE GUARD!?!? No chance. Zoanthropes are fine for anti-tank duties. After recent reconsidration of whether I want my current Trygon Prime model in my army (I fluffed it up a bit, and am just going to use it for painting practice) I may drop 2 Termagaunts to give the Trygon Primes so Adrenal Glands.
Anyone else want to tell me what they think of the list?

Tunneling Trygon
|
You seem to be building towards a large wave that just advances across the board as a group, shooting as it goes and then hitting CC in turn 3.
I would look to increase both warrior squads to 5 min as otherwise they are quite fragile. If running warriors then I always have a tyrannid prime as he gives a real boost to the unit he's attached to. To pay for this I'd drop the ravener squad as there are not enough of them there to be a threat and their deep strike ability does seem to really fit with the rest of the army.
I would also personally try to ensure that at least some of my troops have rending and so can be a threat to transports etc in CC. Maybe rending on 1 squad of warriors? Alternatively, drop one squad of hormogaunts, trim the other gaunts/gants down to 15 or so (rough numbers off the top of my head) and get a unit of say 10 genestealers with rending claws.
If you are running the carnifex without a spore then I have doubts about how much it can do when it needs to be within 12" before it can hurt anything. I would look to change one set of scything talons and the bio plasma for one of the other ranged weapon options. Does he need adrenals when he's STR 9 to start and gets the INIT boost on charging anyway? All he needs is INIT 2 to go before power fists ...
You could also maybe split the gargolyes into 2 broods as they will essentially be your outflanking/screening units. Any spare points you could then boost these up to say 12 strong.

Your Tyrant is ok setup though I'd drop the adrenal glands as don't expect to be in combat any time soon.
Personaly I prefer Hive Guard, more shots and don't need a psychic test or Myceptic Spore to get into range - plus longer range too.
Warriors are cool but a Tyranid Prime even naked will be massive benefit making those Warriors hit on a 3+ instead of 4+ when shooting. I take my Prime with a bonesword and lash whip which does nicely.
DevilGants are cool - so are the Hormagaunts.
Gargoyles shield for Hive Tyrant and Guard or just flank attack? I'd drop them personaly and get another Ravener unit, which btw don't need the ranged weaponry as they're beasts and have fleet so should be running all the time as have a 24" charge range!
That Carnifex isn't going to get anywhere, honestly for it's price I'd get a Trygon which has a 18" assault range and not a 12".

I'd give your carnifex and hive tyrant devourers, one pair would probably be best. Carnifex can use a spore. You need more anti tank. Drop some warriors or raveners for them.

Ok, revised army:
HQ:
1 Hive Tyrant with Stranglethorn Cannon, Lash Whip + Bonesword (or possibly Scything Talons) , Adrenal Gland, Paroxysm and Leech Essence: 200 points.

Troops:
5 Tyranid Warriors, 4 with Deathspitters, 1 with Barbed Strangler: 180 points.
4 Tyranid Warriors, 3 with Deathspitters, 1 with Venom Cannon: Umm....Can't remember.
19 Termagaunts with Devourers: 190 points.
19 Termagaunts with Devourers, 1 with Strangleweb: 195 points.
20 Hormagaunts with Toxin Sacs: 160 points.
20 Hormagaunts with Toxin Sacs: 160 points.
Fast Attack:
20 Gargoyles: 120 points.
4 Raveners with Devourers and Rending Claws: 160 points.
Heavy Support:
Flopsy-1 Carnifex with Heavy Venom Cannon: 185 points.
Mopsy-1 Trygon Prime with Adrenal Gland: 250 points.
Cottontail-1 Trygon Prime with Adrenal Gland: 250 points.

I would swap a squad of hormagaunts for gargoyles and give all your gargoyles adrenal glands. It's the same price and they are faster.

Raveners are great, don't get me wrong, I love them. But I like gargoyles that much more.
I would rather have 2x20 Gargoyles over Raveners. Then use those left over 40 points to upgrade the gargoyles/whatever else.

Mattieu~~~~ It's not that eldar are bad, it's that they require a lot of intergration between units. Also, that doesnt prove anything other than GW has a huge hard-on for marines, and, given the option between making a xeno the best psykers or making a marine the best psyker, they will 9 times out of 10 choose the marine.

Why would you need to model adrenal glands? Wouldn't it be inside the body?
Anyway, ok list, but a bit lacking in AT. Don't know about Raveners.

WYSIWIG dictates that all biomorphs must be shown on the model. But that's not a problem, as I'm not using that particular Trygon Prime model anymore.
