I went to the Winter's Harvest tournament at Valhallas Game Store in Denver, Co over the weekend. It was a 3 round event with about 36 players showing up.

I'll apologize up front for some of the blurry pictures, but I figure a blurry picture is better than no picture. I was unable to finish painting my nurgle themed daemons so I took my tzeentch, slaanesh combo instead.

My Daemon Army
HQ
1 Herald of Tzeentch, chariot, we are legion, master of sorcery, bolt of tzeentch

Game #1:
Mission: Victory Points, +2 battle points for each objective you hold.
Objective placement: 3 across the center of the table, 1 in each players deployment zone
Deployment Type: Dawn of War

The Eldar Army
HQ
Eldrad (with banshee's)
Autarch, mandiblaster, fusion gun (with banshee's)

Elite
8 Banshee's, exarch w/ executioner, wave serpent (shuriken cannon)
6 fire dragons, wave serpent (eml)
6 fire dragons, wave serpent (eml)

Troops
6 Dire Avengers, wave serpent (bright lance)
10 Guardians, warlock, scatter laser
4 jet bikes, warlock

Heavy Support
Fire Prism, spirit stones, holofield
Fire Prism, spirit stones, holofield
3 War Walkers, 2x scatter laser's

I win the roll off and let the Eldar player go first. He set's up his guardians in terrain and his jet bikes on the 24 inch line. Everything else will come on turn 1.

Eldar Turn #1: His force's come on and he castles in the center with his prism's on the edges and the war walkers in the middile, his bikes boost over to the right hand side of the table.

Daemons Turn #1: I get my preferred wave of 3 heralds, 2 fiends, 2 horrors, and the plague bearers. Plague bearers drop towards the center, horror's on the center and right, the fiends drop on the right and in the center. The heralds spread out between the center and the right. Shooting gets me the banshee's wave serpent destroyed.

Eldar Turn #2: He shuffles his wave serpents around, the dire avengers head off to the left. One unit of fire dragons moves up and drop to get shots on the plague bearers. He doesn't take my bait (a herald that scattered too close on the drop) and moves back his banshees. His shooting see's a couple of the plague bearers downed, he kills 3 of the fiends from the right hand side and the war walkers kill off the herald that scattered too close.

The only reason the fiends survived was because of target priority. He decided to shoot the chariot instead of finishing off the fiends.

Daemons Turn #2: I get in 2 soul grinder's, the masque, and a squad of horrors. One grinder drops on the far left objective, one uses the icon to drop in the center, as does the masque and the other unit of horrors. The masque pulls the guardians out of cover and pushes the banshees to the table edge. Shooting see's me destroy the fire dragons that dismounted ride, and immobilize the other fire dragon's wave serpent. I also shake the left side fire prism. I gun down the bikes with heralds and horrors. The center fiend squad kills the guardians, the right side fiend squad kills 2 of the war walkers.

You can see here where the jetbikes have been eliminated and the war walkers reduced.

Eldar Turn #3: The banshees move up to assault the fiends but roll a 1 for their fleet and then a double 1 for their assault leaving them stuck in the open. Eldrad assaults the fiends attacking the war walker. My fiends hit and run out of the combat with the walker.

The 3 ones were just painful.

Daemons Turn #3: I get in the 3rd soul grinder, the flamers, and my last unit of horrors. The horrors drop in the center and the 3rd grinder drops in the center as well (both using the plague bearer icon). The flamers mishap and disappear into the warp, I shoot up most of the banshees and then assault them with the large fiend unit and the masque (the banshee exarch survives and we remain locked in combat), the small fiend unit goes after a prism and immobilizes it. I shake the other prism. I charge a chariot into a war walker just to tie it up.

Eldar Turn #4: Eldrad charges the chariot locked with the war walker. The dire avenger wave serpent moves to the back table edge trying to avoid my advancing soul grinder. I finish off the banshe's but have lost about half of the squad in the process.

Daemons Turn #4: I advance onto all of the objectives. The grinder manages to immobilize the dire avenger wave serpent. The masque charges in on eldrad.

Eldar Turn #5: The fire dragons get out and fire on a fiend unit and then charge the lone survivor taking it out (but losing 2 fire dragons in the process). The dire avengers also get out and unload into the fiend unit beating on the fire prism (by now it's immobilized and has no weapons, but it's not dead yet) killing them off as well. He flat outs his remaining prism onto one of the objectives.

Daemons Turn #5: I kill off the dire avengers with a flame template from a soul grinder, and shooting see's the fire dragons killed. I take 2 strength 10 shots and 10 strength attacks from 2 soul grinders at the prism and fail to scratch the paint.

I just can't manage to get that last prism.

I've lost 2 fiend units. He's left with Eldrad, 1 mobile fire prism, 1 war walker (out of 3). One immobilized fire prism, and 2 immobilized wave serpents. The tournament organize says I get no points for immobilized vehicles only destroyed ones so I end up with a major victory, and +8 points for holding 4 objectives. This gives me 22 points for the round, the max available was 27.

Nice report, I enjoyed reading it.

Kind of discouraging how effective you were at destroying the Eldar players mobility, especially the bikes and serpents. Ive never played Demons, but how do demons shoot? You Shot the Banshees Wave Serpent, 2 War Walkers, 4 Jetbikes in One Turn. What FirePower do Demons Have and how is it that effective?

The Eldar player has a solid list but Imo Should have spread his forces a little more and relied on his superior shooting and mobility. Unlucky to see his Uber Elite CC squad not doing much.

Nice Job by both, the eldar player had to have made a few mistakes becaues he has a solid list.

This looks like a major change up for your daemon list. I like the inclusion of the Masque and think she is really cheap for what she can do. It's interesting to see you dropped the princes for soul grinders. If it were me I'd run two walkers and one prince. Mechdar is very much a run and hide army so it's good to see you punishing them. Good job and good report. Looking forward to the next report.

@Smitty0305: The bikes went down to 1 str 8 ap1 shots, 3 str 5 ap3 shots at bs 4 and 24 str 4 ap4 shots and 2 str 8 ap1 shots at bs3. The wave serpent went down to 2 str 8 ap1 shots, and a str 10 ap1 shot. The fiends are a close combat unit, and they are what took out the war walkers.

If my entire army was on the table it generates the following anti-tanks shots

at bs4
4 24" str8 ap1 assault 1 shots
3 24" str10 ap1 assault 1 shots

at bs3
3 24" str8 ap1 assault 1 shots

Every gun I fire is at ap1 and is on a move and shoot platform.

Fiends have 5 attacks base at str5 with rending, so they usually like to assault walker squadrons and also do a good job at going after vehicles as well.

As far as mistakes the eldar player made. This is of course my own opinion. He shouldn't have jumped out and shot plague bearers with his fire dragons. Actually instead of shooting the fire dragon's wave serpents at all he should have run them flat out until I dropped the soul grinder's and then gone after them with his fire dragons. He also had target priority issues. He should have moved his guardian squad up on turn 2 and used them to shoot and assault the herald on the chariot, and then used the war walkers to kill off the right hand fiend squad. The fortuned banshee's should have been used to fleet and back up either the destruction of the fiends or the chariot and then fallen back to into cover to receive my fiend charge which would have resulted in mutual annihilation. I also live off of getting multi-charges off on vehicles with fiends, he needed to disperse his tanks so that I could only go after them 1 at a time.

Are you comparing this list to my nurgle themed list? Or some of my earlier mono tzeentch lists? Since the book came out I've loved the Masque I just got a lot of flak from people when taking her in a mostly/all tzeentch army. Most of the oh you shouldn't mix X and Z complaining has gone away recently so in she went. She works great in conjunction with grinder's and fiends. I typically make sure to go all one or the other with my heavy support. The reason is target saturation. One soul grinder is easy to kill, 2 isn't much harder, but taking out all three usually takes a bit of time. If I run princes I like to go all princes to make sure my opponents anti-tank is a complete waste. Just my reasoning on it.

I run two walkers and a prince in my mono Khorne army. The prince can take down enemy walkers such as dreadnoughts to prevent them from engaging the grinders. You could do the same with your Fiends but really I see the Fiends as your vanguard while the grinders sit back and lob pieplates - its a good combination.

Seems like most daemon players are fielding armies with units from the various gods so I see no reason not to field the Masque with your Tzneetch heavy list. It's got some Nurgle too so no big deal really in my mind.

Man that is one expensive army? How much did all those Fiends cost you? 3 soulgrinders and 3 Herald TZee....Must be a fortune to do up an army like this.

I've been playing for a long time. If you look closely 10 out of 12 of my fiends are the 2nd edition models, not the newer 3rd edition models. To put this army together I bought the 3 grinder and 2 of the new fiends, I already had everything else. The chariots I converted using screamers and flying bases, so they weren't all that expensive to make. No clue how much all of this from scratch would cost.
