When 8th edition started I was torn between WoC and Dwarfs ... after enough thought I started WoC. That army is nearly finished so I want to at least start planning my final project - a small army to have for small points (1500ish points) games.
I have always enjoyed dwarfs and have decided to make a traditional (fluffy) army from Karak Kadrin - I like the slayers fluff and the red paint scheme in the army book.
However the codex has very little fluff outside of the paragraph or two about the stronghold. Does anyone know where I can find some more?
Also besides slayers what other units should I include.
Finally does anyone know where to get a decent slayer model - the metal GW ones are terrible.

I got the Avatars of War dwarven berzerker model and i love it! Also, there's rumor of them making plastic sets of the same quality berzerkers coming early next year, so you could get some of those to buff up your slayer hordes.

Are you looking for a slayer character, or enough to make entire regiments?
I've got the Grudgelore book up in the closet, I'll see what that's got about Kadrin and post up tomorrow some time. I know they're used to holding Peak Pass against invasions, including frequent Chaos (i.e. not just greenskins).
There's also a bit in Gav Thorpe's book Grudgebearer, but I think it mostly seemed like a normal Dwarf army. I do remember lots of gyros- which makes sense as scouts and pickets for a hold watching for frequent invasions.

Look up the Storm of Chaos book for a heap of ideas.
The Gottrek & Felix books are full of slayer lore too.

Do you actually want a traditional army or just an excuse to use lots of slayers?
If you seriousl want traditional that means bolt throwers instead of cannons and x-bows instead of guns (ha,ha).
if you go for traditional - i will look forward to pics.
Dont forget you will need plenty of basic warriors.
Try some of the "secondary" manufacturers for minis like black Tree Design or Grenadier.

I want to make a fluffy army with little regard to actual effectiveness (thats why i figured 1500 would be a good points limit for this army).
For instance imo slayers as an infantry block seem sub-par but there will be at least 1 unit of them (or a hero). If they use gyrocopters to scout the passes then I will include them (even though they are not the most useful of units). Xbows vrs guns is another for ranged infantry is a perfect example.

No gyros ,they used to use hangliders-though you would probably have to convert them as the models are way old now same for ski troops.

Listen to snurl and use the Karak Kadrin Slayer army list presented in the Storm of Chaos book.
