Looking for a hand here, I have been conned into helping my FLGS bring in and set up 40k locally. Now these kids are old hands with various Card games, magic and the like, so getting the basic rules down has been easy, but now they want to start picking their armies. I only play BA, orks, and Guard, the rest I do not use so any help on giving a quick summary based on these factors. Style of army?( elite horde ect). Do most of the models exist for the codex? Ease of use? (Lets be honest some armies are tricky to play well). Ease of painting? Price of army. (I know it's subjective but some armies like marines are all plastic thus a tad cheaper then say necrons who are much metal. Thank you to anyone who helps.

Space Marines: Simple, durable, shooting army. Their Fast Attack is outstanding, but stupidly expensive.
-----Black Templars: Fun variant with great fluff, very fun to paint.
-----Dark Angels: If terminators are your thing, stop right here.
-----Space Wolves: Viking werewolves. In space. Very competitive.
-----Grey Knights: Wait for the next codex.
Tau: The last word in long-ranged combat. Warning: exactly one aesthetic.
Chaos Marines: Great troops, ok everything else. Fun, but suffers from codex creep.
Chaos Daemons: Simple, but not easy, assault force. For deep strike enthusiasts.
Eldar: Bright, crisp color schemes. On the tabletop, mech or die. For psyker lovers.
Tyranids: If you like classic aliens, you'll love the bugs. Assault horde--very model-intensive.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Necrons: Outdated at the moment. Weird rules. I don't recommend them for gameplay, but they look awesome.

Eldar are cool.
Dark eldar are CRUEL
Orks are oafs spoiling for a fight.

Blood Angels and Space Wolves are just lame.

Ultramarines are, like ... ULTRA!

As (un)popular as they often are, Space Marines are a fantastic way to learn the basics of the game, so it couldn't hurt to push that on some players who are brand new to the game. Is the shop buying some demo product like GW has set up in their stores?

CSM: Fairly rounded like their SM counterparts
Most of the models and upgrades are on the sprue, some upgrades would be better converted.
A bit expensive if you try to add one of the four god troop choices.
Metal dreadnaught, but there is a plastic just as good called the defiler(I prefer over the dread any day)
VERY easy for conversions.
Oh and...they have spikes ''nuff said.
