Have any of you other gamers out there done this? Importing elements of the game from WAB such as FBIGO, cavalry countercharging, fast march, the charge reaction fire and flee as well as perhaps cross game confrontations, orcs vs romans for example.

If so what are some of your conclusions?

Haven't tried it, but would like to.  They seem to manage to make the rules more streamlined for ease of play (most likely its from not having to wrestle with magic and tons of fantastic creatures).

Me, I like the Longbow rules from Ancients(for my poor Bret archers).

Probably also why I'm going to drop Fantasy and play Ancients

I've been fiddling with this for a bit, and have some trial rules to use for combining most any WAB list with WFB. I'd be willing to put it up as an article for ya'll if your interested. To date I've had about ten games between my Various WAB armies and Sundrie WFB armies, who have agreed to these funny interaction rules. Let me know.
