Is there any reason a unit with multiple pinning weapons cannot potentially force more than one pinning test on an enemy unit in a single round of shooting?

For example, if two mortars from two separate units both inflicted unsaved wounds on an enemy unit, that unit would be forced to take a pinning test in both instances (assuming they passed the first one). But if three guardsmen with sniper rifles in a special weapons squad each land an unsaved wound on an enemy unit is there any reason that unit should not be forced to take three pinning tests rather than just one?

The rules as written don't seem to make any special exceptions for multiple pinning weapons in single units as best I can tell. Am I wrong? My brother and I have always just assumed that a unit can only take one leadership test at a time. But why? We take multiple saves at the same time, why not leadership tests too? Is there anything in the rules about this that I've everlooked?

I think it use to work that way, but now you only need to take one pinning test at the end of the shooting phase I think.

Have a read of the FAQ. One unit can, at most, force ONE pinning check per unit it fires at.

Yup. In earlier editions, one pinning check could be forced per unit firing & inflicting a casualty.

In 5th edition as originally printed, the pinning rules were phrased such that a single unit could force multiple pinning checks by inflicting multiple casualties with different weapons. But GW changed that in the new FAQ which just came out this month, back to a max of one test inflicted per firing unit.

However, some units can shoot at multiple targets in the same round, thinking Tau Sniper Drones here.

So a unit can inflict multiple pinning tests, but only one test on each unit fired upon. Also a unit can be forced to take multiple tests within the same phase, so if two seperate barrage weapons, ie two units, fire at and wound the same unit, it would have to take two tests.

Tau sniper drones within a team al fire at the same target, from memory - you may be geting confused that you get 1 - 3 units of Snipers per choice.

They've got that nifty little target lock on each drone.

The one where everyone has disagreements over whether it works or not.

Ah, is that the "take a TP test" stuff?

The item doesnt work as it requires you to do something that no longer exists in the rules...

Yes, but it's also the one where GW's own house rule is that it works.

As I said, it's the one that everyone has the disagreements about.
