either the standard or the crusader imo, the lascannons always come out helping me, but I feel like the crusaders close range firepower would be amazing, and I'd add in the MM more than likely

I was personally thinking the crusader but wanted opinions incase I decided to use it as 'just a tank' in a game and then the standard pattern would be better, how good are the crusaders?

Against infintry a Redeemer would be better says I.

But the crusader has most of the power of a tac squad plus TL ACs in an Av14 all round package.

Also if you go this route, redeemer/crusader is 1 package so you can magnetize the sponson if you wanna get creative, and therefore could also pick up a set of lascannon sponsons, and the HB for the reg variant off ebay for pretty cheap

crusader is best at med-close range imo
redeemer is the meq killer in close range
Regular is ok but nothing great, normal use is move 12 MS to shoot with the reg you're losing out as there are no defensive weapons

Looks like i'll run the crusader then, sounds very intimidating for a captains ride charging down the battlefield spitting tonnes of death!

Figured I'd give you a "pros" and "cons" of each

Normal Land Raider:
Pros: great long range guns that are twin linked and give a high strength shot, better than average transport capacity (12)
Cons: moving 12" means no guns fire, other than the PotMS gun; guns each have a single, twin linked shot that can only hit a single target each; no assault grenades for assaulting troops (unless the troops have them)

Land Raider Redeemer:
Pros: Flamestorm Cannon eats mech models in close range at S6, AP3; has assault grenade launchers for assaulting units; better than average transport options (12 again, I believe); cheapest Land Raider cost (by 10 pts)
Cons: Mostly short range guns (flame template and multimelta) with only one having decent range-the assault cannon

Land Raider Crusader:
Pros: HUGE transport capacity-16 models; largest number of shots among Land Raiders; Assault Grenade Launchers
Cons: sponson guns are only multiple twin linked boltguns-nothing fancy

Hopefully this helps influence your decision, and if anyone has anything to add, just throw it on to help. Personally, I prefer crusaders-especially for my Blood Angels (I need at least 14 open spaces in my LRs for how I run units) but it really depends on what your needs are. Give each one a try and see what you like.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

It depends on how you command squad is equiped and how you intend to use them.

If they are set up as ranged fire power, normal land raider

If they are set up as a CC unit, then LRR for a tac marine command squad, or a LRC for a termie command squad.

Thanks guys, i'll be running Tac command squad at this stage of planning, so again i think judging from what you've told me pro and con wise it'll be the crusader :-)

I would go Crusader. I think it will provide great protection against infantry resistance and of the 3 primary variants it has the most prestigious appearance. Good luck with your decision

Check out Forgeworld and have a look at some of the varients there, I'm not sure what it's called but there is one with a whirlwind missile launcher that looks pretty awesome.

Need someone to paint it

Crusader's main perks is that it holds more infantry than any other imperial vehicle bar apocalypse. It's weapons, however, are the worst out of the three variants due to it having bolters instead of heavy weapons. Redeemers are assault vehicles. You charge in, flame anything in sight, then unload the squad inside to mop up. It's devastating at what it does, but running up that close means you're gonna get ping'd by a melta gun somewhere very fast. The Normal variant is designed to carry the troops into combat and then turn into a fire platform, with the PotMS allowing it to fire it's heavy weapons at two different targets. While the other Raider variants have PotMS, only the vanilla kind makes the most of it, since you can fire the two lascannons at two vehicles, whereas you tend to need both hurricane bolters to kill something, while you will also likely only use one Flamestorm cannon unless you're surrounded.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

I used to run a Prometheus Command Tank in my Marine builds. It's a Forgeworld kit that is a Land Raider chassis with all the standard rules, but it has 2 TL heavy bolters in each sponson. It's not Codex, but a lot of gamers are pretty willing to play against something different. That thing would hit 11-12 times every time I fired it. It was great.

The main pro for the Crusader is the hurricane bolters are only strength 4 which means they can be used as defensive weapons. So you can move 6 inches and still fire almost everything.

Anything with a good armor save will laugh at it, but if you can get everything into rapid fire range, you can drag most targets under by sheer armor rolls.

Hurricaine Bloters can always be fired, regardless of movement.

Only GK crusaders can do that.

if the Vanilla Crusader moves 12" it can still only fire one gun.

under 6" it can fire everything.

Yes, that defensive weapon trick doesn't work after 6 inches unless your fast, and even BA don't have fast LR's.
