A nice and dramatic title is always a good way to start a thread, eh?

So, as can probably be derived from said title, I'm reading Soul Hunter. Yeah. Since some freinds of mine are running a pre-heresy campaign at some point in 2011, I leapt on the chance to do some Night lords complete with batman in spa...Night Haunter. Sounds simple up to this point.

However, being a bit...funny, I also accepted the not inconsiderable task of naming every single model in my army (let it never be said I do things by half). So, fellow Night Lords, that's why I come to you; I need conventions for Nostraman naming! Help a brother out? Please?

A fun list. Serial Killers. Swap the names around a little and I think you'll have some apt names for the legion.

Yeah, a lot of their recruits were taken from Nostramo's criminal population; the muggers, thieves, murderers, bagpipists etc (I'm kidding, bagpipists, you aren't criminals...officialy ). All the yummy yummy stuff.

Take random groups of four letters add a ' after them then follow the ' with either a "k" or "h" followed by two random letters.

You'll notice that not all Nostraman have similar names, it would be like assuming everyone on earth only uses names found in the US. Sure most US names are based off names from else where, but it doesn't mean they are the only ones.


Name the, how you would like to name them. Also you would do well to remember that at first not all Night Lords were recruited from the worlds criminals, so you can have a mix of criminal sounding names and normalish names. Just don't ask me the difference between them.

Considering the cultural mix in US society you could probably find examples of names from all over the world.

Well you could say cultural mix about pretty much any Western Nation, so lets take China or Vietnam instead. Same thing pretty much applies.

I suppse in sci-fi planets tend to be controlled by a central authority which implies 1 country and therefore 1 culture.

Neither China nor Vietnam are culturally homogenous.

What ever the point is all the damned names aren't gonna be exactly the fething same, stop looking at the little things. Just try and understand what it is I am trying to say.

@Purple, yes I know that can work like that but Nostromo was a civilized world that I would assume had contact with others which would mean other names. And if you take a look at it Night Lords don't really have a set style of name.

If you are doing a Great Crusade style army then you would be perfectly entitled to use Terran style Latin names. However if it is a heresy era campaign these names should be limited.
Whatever you decide to go with i would suggest lots of S's as A-D-B describes Nostraman as an almost snake like language.

Naming models is the bomb. All my guardsmen have names.

First of all I have to salute you for an ambitious project. I have only named key officers and decorated sergeants of my armies. Maybe a total of two dozen models. Good luck on project.

Secondly, do not insult bagpipers. Seriously. They, just like elephants and dwarves, have a long long memory for both wrongs ( and favors ) done to them. You never know when you might awaken in the middle of the night to the haunting wail of pipes coming to get you .

No one said the names would be the same, like Bob and John they are different name but they are from the same culture.
It never says if Nostramo had contact with other worlds.
I have never seen a Night Lord name writen down (never read the Night Lord book either)

Stynier has a good point. The names indicate no pattern. Dembski-Bowden doesn't seem to have put much thought into tying the NL characters' names into the Nostroman "language" (my guess, just gibberish) he sometimes uses. "Talos" was selected to be "cool" and "evocative" more than anything else, I'd reckon. You can't really say the same thing about "Aragorn."
