Background:

History: In the year 728.M41 the High Lords of terra saw the necessity of increased support along the edge of the Segmentum Pacificus. The area of space was growing increasingly unstable from xenos threat and being so far away from the imperial capital made maintaining the region difficult (even with the presence of the Ultramarines and their successors). Thus it was decreed that a new chapter be formed near the lower outer rim of the Segmentum on the recently rediscovered ice world of Glacius. Genestock was created from the purest form of Iron Hands geneseed on record as the chapter had relatively few successors and the chapters hardy, callous nature seemed the perfect fit for the ice world. Forgefather Bloth of the Chidani clan of Medusa gathered his greatest veterans and willingly volunteered to train the new chapter.

Bloth viewed the occasion as a fresh start for Ferrus Mannuses bloodline and was quite eager for the undertaking. Upon reaching Glacius Bloth wasted no time in beginning his work. The local populace had grown incredibly hardy and strong in the depths of the desolate inhospitable world near its core to escape the icy surface and made perfect candidates for Astares Training. Bloth chose the young prince of a noble and strong house from the locals ruling class to be his apprentice and began shaping him to be the future chapter master and ruler of the whole system. The young boy was taut everything of the Iron Hands Primarch Ferrus Mannus and the strict teachings of the codex astares and of the Iron Hands chapter itself. The boy grew and took all his training better than expected, like a fine piece of machinery he was built into a tool of the emperors will and the teachings of the Iron Hands and codex astares alike. Upon his final induction as a Chapter Master and full Astares he was given the name Lyrost which in the language of the people of Glacius meant “frost lord” in honor of the planet and his title as ruler. A full five companies were raised within 5 years and with the chapter functioning on its own the Iron Hands took their leave hoping the best for their child chapter.

Lyrost was quick to make the chapter its own and aptly named the chapter the Scions of Glacius for there world and the nature of the chapter’s purpose in looking over the system. He also built the Fortress Monastery Frostholm deep in the crust of Glacius. Fully armed and now at full chapter strength of 10 companies the Ivory Guard set out into space aboard their brand new fleet consisting of the Battlebarge Iceborne and the two strike cruisers Fist of Ferrus, and Steel Will along with several smaller vessels’. As a first assignment the Scions of Glacius had the honor of mobilizing 5 companies for the Damocles Crusade while the rest stayed behind to continue training of the 10th and to continue fortification of their new system. During the crusade Lyrost proved to be a brave yet practical commander. Through cold precise technique and a cool calculating head Lyrost was able to claim the lives of many battlesuit commanders and even brought low the bloodthirsty kroot chieftain Amung’kuk though he lost his left arm and side of his face in the process. He was truly Frost borne and inspiration to his chapter holding leadership through example above all others. Word spread round quickly of his noble heritage and he became known among his brothers as Prince Lyrost the Frost borne. The chapter quickly earned a name for itself for rapid deployment of heavy armor and cold steel resilience, making them a great asset against the tau.

The many victories of Lyrost and the Scions of Glacius in the Damocles Gulf were short lived though as a message was spread throughout the fleet of the arrival of Hive fleet Behemoth. The Crusade came to a halt and Lyrost swore he would continue to build his chapters honor on the broken backs of this new xenos menace. Before the fleet could leave to counter Behemoth a dire plea for help was received from their monastery back on Glacius. The construction and mining taking place there had awakened Glaciuses first inhabitants, Necrons. From the depths of the world’s oceans and pouring from the massive catacombs in the planets crust, hoards of the metal xenos and their dread monoliths marched forth lead by a incredibly powerful necron lord . Already sworn to help against behemoth Lyrost and the 1st company took a strike cruiser and rapidly pulled back to Glacius while the 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th went on to support the Ultramarines. By the time Lyrost had reached Glacius he found all he had built in ruins. 8th and 9th companies were all but destroyed and 10th had been scattered throughout the companies for training as scouts (per codex astares) and 6th and 7th were locked in a stalemate firefight at the Scions of Glacius bastion of Frostholm. The first descended upon the necron with righteous fury. With tactical dreadnought armor and the chapters most skilled fighters they drove the necron back into the catacombs. 6th and 7th retained great losses during the push and Lyrost ordered them to go to the civilian colonies and ensure the protection of the people and to help them start rebuilding. In the meantime Lyrost and the 1st descended into the blackness to purge their home of this xenos filth once and for all.

The battles that took place below in the black heart of Glacius will stay in the chapters history for all time. Through hard fighting the necron were destroyed to a man, the final battle ending in combat between Lyrost and his honor guard and the mighty C’tan infused Necron Lord. The battle lasted for hours and all of the honor guard laid their lives down for their lord. In the end it was Lyrost’s skill with his relic blade that won out thou. But in his death throws the Crazed Necron Lord self destructed in a destructive blast of necrotic energy and metal taking Lyrost down with it. What was left of the Scions of Glacius 1st company rose from the catacombs with the shattered body of their warrior prince and sealed the tomb forever. The chapter was shattered in its infancy and put out a call to all companies to return to Glacius for consolidation. The companies gone fighting off aginst behemoth returned to their home world in shock and horror. Their Prince was beyond any medical treatment, and the rest of the chapter was decimated. Luckily 2nd,3rd, 4th, and 5th took only minimal losses against the tyranids and set to rebuilding the chapter once again. Within 10 years the chapter had rebuild but came out of the ashes a changed beast. Hearing of Lyrosts sacrifice Ironfather Bloth returned to Glacius to do the great honor of placing the Scions of Glacius chapter master and his former apprentice in a master crafted venerable dreadnought so that even in death he may lead the chapter. The Scions of Glacius went on to claim many victories in the name of the emperor and Glacius. They earned the name of being completely ruthless in the face of any xenos and bearing hearts of ice in the face of the heretic.

Homeworld: Glacius is an Ice world on the outer rim in the Segmentum Pacificus. The whole world is surrounded frozen oceans and only two large continents. It is a harsh unforgiving world with very little indigenous life. Glacius and its two moons are of great importance to the imperium on it outer rim. Glacius itself if made up many rare metals and minerals perfect for manufacturing and trade not only for the planets own needs but also for terrans tithes. Of greater importance though is that one of Glaciuses moon was an abandoned forgeworld. The whole moon was made of the same metals and minerals found in pockets all over Glacius. Upon rediscovery mars was eager to get its techpriests and adepts back to the forgemoon to begin production once again. The forgemoon and the Scions of Glacius have always held a symbiotic partnership. In exchange for protection and servitude, the forgemoon would meet all of the chapters demands of armor, munitions, and vehicles. Glaciuses second moon is nothing but a molten rock torn by constant volcanic activity and completely uninhabitable, its passing through the sky is considered a bad omen on Glacius as its molten fiery surface is a reminder of the chaos that lurks in all things.

The people of Glacius live deep within the planets crust closer to its core for warmth. They are actually descendent of a fleet that came to this system during the original great crusade before the heresy. The people themselves only survived on the world thanks to the technology and machines with them passed down for millennia. Over the millennia the people forgot their true heritage and became a mining society based on a monarchy of sorts. Ruler ship had been passed down to a few noble houses for generations. The populations were at peace and welcomed the rediscovery by terrans with open arms. Legends of the people say speak of a terrible war long ago between its people and one called the Iron Death and his army of metal dead. This was undoubtedly a minor awakening of the necron lord and his army. One of the noble houses raised a massive army in population and pushed Iron Death back and sealed the entrance to where it came. It wasn’t until later that ironically Lyrost himself was descendent of this noble house. This was a feat only accomplished with the mighty war machines left to the people from the great crusade and with great sacrifice.

Organization: The Scions of Glacius organization changed drastically from their first founding till the present. Lyrost believed that the chapter must honor the traditions of their home while still keeping with Codex Astares rule and the traditions of their parent chapter. After the war on Glacius with the necrons the Scions of Glacius found it necessary to spread out both the first companies’ dreadnought and tactical dreadnought armor throughout all the companies along with all of tenth companies scouts. As such First company still consist of the Scions of Glacius leadership cast and greatest veterans, but tenth company is organized no different than any other. Recruitment is still done only in the Glacius system. Initiates are almost always of the noble houses. Recruitment ritual is done under the harshest conditions as the Scions of Glacius venerate strength and perseverance above all other qualities. The initiates must travel to frigid inhospitable surface of Glacius and spend one day and one night undertaking a series of competitions with other initiates. The survivors and victors are brought back to the northern most continent of Glacius and underground once more to the Fortress Monastery of Frostholm to begin Astares training.

The Scions of Glacius close proximity to the forgemoon means that it can readily send a high number of initiates to receive mechanicus training. This mixed with the great respect for machines and technology that the people of Glacius have as their saviors over the millennia have lead to a very high number of techmarines and armored vehicles. In fact so deeply ingrained is the veneration of life bringing machines on Glacius that even the Chapters chaplains are required to go receive mechanicus training resulting and a techmarine/chaplain hybrid know as techshamans. They are the embodiment of both Glacius tradition and chapter pride. They are battlefield leaders, skilled engineers and keepers of faith all in one.

The chapter holds very few librarians for a codex chapter possibly because of the lack of chaos presence in Glaciuses region of space. The librarians of the chapter serve a much more specialized service though in the Scions of Glacius. If the chapter is ever assigned to help support are strike a chaos foe as special strike team is formed from the chapters most hardened and proven veterans lead by one of the chapter’s librarians. This can range any were from a few squads to a whole company with company support. They are known as the Frost Knights and they are greatly respected and honored among the chapter. Many a heretic, mutant, and daemon have fallen to their blades. Other than to lead the Frost Knights the librarians are the keepers of the chapters small but growing historical logs and battle records. These are the chapters only known variations from the Codex Astares.

Combat Doctrine: The Scions of Glacius takes great pride in being practical, cold, calculating fighters. Not bound by the hubris battle field edict of pride or glory. The Ivory Guard cares only of victory in the name of the Emperor by any means. This is reflected in their tactics by use of camouflage when necessary, massed use of mobile armor in overwhelming numbers (sometimes even beyond that which the situation calls for), and the use of heavy long range firepower. It is also noted that it is uncommon to see the Scions of Glacius with flamer weaponry on the field of battle. Most likely because according to Glacius lore fire represents the dread moon and the uncontrollable nature of chaos. It is often an quote passed around Scions of Glacius commanders “Cold lead and a sharp edge kill just as well as fire and zeal”.

The most common notation of all Scions of Glacius thou is there overwhelming use of vehicles. All tactical squads are based in rhinos or drop pods for rapid precise attack, scouts are often deployed behind enemy lines in Land speeder transports or bikes eager to prove their worth, and it is common for heavy support to come in the form of multiple dreadnought and tank firepower. This wide array of armor from such a young chapter can only be attributed to its close link to the orbiting forge moon and mass supply of local metals on Glacius. This is likely the same reason that there is always one if not more techmarines present on the battlefield to over watch their many machines or not uncommon to see one of the Scions of Glacius infamous Techshamans leading a strike. The Scions of Glacius unusual Combat Doctrine and battlefield philosophy favoring cold efficiency and practicality over zeal and pride have been the result of conflict with some chapters and earned praise by others.

During a suicidal engagement against a Behemoth splinter fleet Captain Ithicar of the Scions of Glacius 1rd Company almost came to violence against the Black Templar Marshal Tibias in the matter of retreating in the face of unbeatable odds. “We will stay and die with honor, we will gladly give our lives for the emperor!” Shouted Tibias. Ithicar simply replied before leaving “It is better to retreat now and still have strength to fight with honor in the emperors name another day”. The planet being evacuated and there being no further purpose in staying besides misplaced honor the Captain Ithicar retreated to reinforce surrounding worlds.

Eye of Terror... I think

Not yet but I think Ill be working on a small squad soon. I really like the Scions of Glacius. Has a great ring to it.

Do you guys think the paint scheme will work? White is a pain to paint but I think boltgun silver will stand out very well against it and I havent ever seen a chapter with that scheme.

Frost Lords make sense since Lyrost supposedly means "frost lord".

As for how i'd paint it I'd go with gunmetal armour with ice blue trim.
