Hey all,
I was just forming my Christmas Wishlist, and was wondering if Furioso Librarians were worth it?
Are they just not worth their points, do they hog up an elite slot, are normal BA librarians better?
Thanks,
|

It really depends on what kind of list you are running to be honest, I find that one can work well in a pod in a DoA list but I wouldn't really recommend more than one in a list because I'd prefer to fill them with Sternguard.
However if you play a MSU list or Mech. then the answer, I find, is that no they are not.
And NB, I think you can only have librarians that are furioso? Don't have a codex at hand at the minute.
Zeph.

Well you already have 2 librarians, so I'd doubt a furioso one could add a lot (secondly, you should give the librarians jump pack and plonk them in the assualt squads with the Sang. Priests )

I use one sometimes. I would suggest you get the Venerable kit and pin or magnetise the parts to allow you to switch between Libby and regular Dread depending on your opponent. As for psychic powers, I would recommend Shield of Sanguinius and Wings of Sanguinius.

The extra psychic powers/psychic hood coverage is a plus. Having to take the force weapon is not always a plus. Not being able to add any further upgrades is also not a plus.
I do play them on occasion and they tend to be pretty decent but I'm not really convinced they are better than a regular furioso coming in from a drop pod with a heavy flamer.

what's the 2nd arm on a Furioso Libby? is it a DCCW or a Blood Talon?

its a Blood Fist (DCCW). Liibrarian Dreads can't take talons but on the plus side you can choose to use either the force weapon or the Blood fist for the attacks and you get the extra attack for having a 2nd weapon. Usually the Fist is a better option IMO.

Wings of Sanguinius on a dreadnought is awesome though. Combine that with Unleash Rage and you have a highly mobile HUGE HEADACHE making unit.
Force Weapon and points cost do suck though

I use three. They are made of awesome with sprinkles on top. I mean, what's not to like about a flying AV13 dreadnought?
Of course it really blows when you get perils. I have a tendency to immobilize myself on perils rolls
Unleash rage on furioso libby is sub-par IMO, I've started experimenting with might instead, better with more attacks than fewer, better attacks.

Kinda pointless when he is already strength 10 and going to ID thanying T5 and below. shield or might are my usual powers to go with wings. Fly that thing at the neares LR and watch it make all those points back in 1 assault.

Furioso librarians are expensive, 175pts! sure they are tough and can fly but why not get a jetpack armed epistolary with a storm shield and throw him in an assault squad.

because a TDA libby isn't immune to ID, Str6 weapons, and getting beaten in CC.
he also isn't packing Str6 or Str10 power attacks.

ok guys, thanks for the input. Based on what was said, I think Furioso Dreadnoughts are a good investment for how I am going to play BA.

Seeing some of the responses in here makes me wonder what kind of crazy nonsense people think they are capable of. The cannot:
Use both the force weapon and DCCW at the same time-so st 6 force OR st 10
Gain and extra attack- you need 2 DCCW for that.
Overall I do not think they are worth the point increase over the normal Furioso. Those are so broken it hurts.

actually, the DCCW counts as an extra CCW for the Force Weapon and vice versa.
