This came up in 40k general, so I figured I'd ask where the people who know hang out.

Codex Tyranids says a Hive Tyrant may join a unit of Tyrant Guard in the same manner as an Independant Character joining a unit. Does this mean, if he has joined the unit, shooting attacks directed at him count as being directed at the unit as a whole, and can be allocated by the controlling player to the Tyant Guard?

Absolutely, he cannot be picked out by shooting attacks - wounds are allocated to the unit (tyrant+guard).

Also, no matter how he joined the squad, he IS NOT an IC.

He may not leave the squad after joining them, and he also may not be picked out in close combat. Just like shooting, all attacks are directed against the squad and allocated as a normal squad.
