Subject: For IG army, going LatD style mutants or generic guard?

Getting over my phobia of the overwhelming amount of parts that came in the Emperor's Fist (yes, it took me a full 3-4 years to get over it) Tank Company, I wanna jumpstart my Guard Regiment. Thing is, fluff wise, this army is suppose to be the Regiment of the same system under my own SM chapter, who are highly religious and intolerant of mutation (my chapter has an abnormally high proportion of Chaplains). I've always wanted to do LatD, but fluff wise I also want to be consistent. Should I do both armies (given the amount of tanks that came in the box, i can easily fill two armies with Armour, and I wanted some artilleries too, so this will be a good excuse to buy some of those instead of just shelving my current tanks) or go with one, and if so which one?

LatD style guard is always cool but is a lot more work. If you're prepared to take on the extra work then go for it!
You may also want to checkout the IA renegade guard list - it's not especially powerful but it's very cool.

LatD, definately,
They are much more interesting than normal IG, and aren't really that hard to make. All it takes is a few kitbashes and you can have a really interesting looking army, which is much more unique.

LatD are definitely a good choice. I had the pleasure of playing a really well converted Khornate LatD style army a couple of weeks ago. I don't like getting tabled but against an army as cool as that one I really didn't mind.
If you do want to do 'standard' Imperial Guard, don't forget about the metal stuff in the collectors range, you don't see a lot of Mordian, Steel Legion, Tallarn or Valhallan armies these days and if you're after something different to the standard plastics but don't fancy all the converting they could be ideal. Sadly though they are very expensive (particularly if like me you're also buying tanks from forgeworld).

LatD is what I'm going for, however part of the higher command structure of my Guard Army has already been made (the Strakken stand-in that serves as the company commander, Tech Priests, and Ministratum priests). However the Priests are made from Empire Flagallants, so they might fit with the Mutant look of The army.
I certainly love the converting aspect of LatD. Combining Ork, Zombie, and guard parts into one massive kitbash army is any converter's dream. I think I'll build up my Mech Army as standard guard (thus requiring only one battle force to fill out all of the compulsory choices, and using most of the tanks for them) while making a zerg-rush army with LatD.
Last question: I have 4 unbuilt Ogres I intend to convert into Ogryns. Should they go towards the loyalist IG or the LatD army?

Maybe renegades with reclaimed and mismatched weapons? A conscript squad made of mutated soldiers herded up and thrown at the enemy would look great. That way you still have your non mutated rank and file with the conscript mutants being something to have a kitbash field day over.

I just plan on kitbashing a bunch of Ork, Zombie, Guard and maybe marauder parts together. Lasguns and sluggas will all be used to represent lasguns rule-wise, or just pieces of thrown scrap and garbage.
