Hi, my friend and i have been looking for alternative space marine helmets for our armies. I found the pig-iron heads, which would suffice for me, but my friend, who is making a starcraft 2 terran themed army, is looking for the larger 'visor' type helmets, and we can't seem to find any on the internet.
the kind of helmet we're looking for looks like this:
if anyone knows of any we could use that'd be great, cheers

sorry, nothing comes to mind...cant think of any distributors that have that style either (besides lego, but then his characters would look like 'lord helmet' from spaceballs)

I appreciate that this doesn't help at all, so sorry in advance for that, but I always think it looks like he has bunny ears in this picture
this could be helpful with your project in the longrun though - a Terran project started by Khargrim a way back that kinda fizzled out. The body he moulded was awesome though!

space marine shoulder pads can be painted as if a front visor but may be too big.
What about converting? File down the face so you can blob down a visor on the front of a helmet. Shouldn't be too hard.

hey guys, sorry i was a bit late replying.
thanks a bunch for all the replies, the ones Calibanite Lion linked are almost perfect, we don't need an exact replica as long as it roughly represents the terran.
Thanks again Automatically Appended Next Post:
oh, thank you so much, that website is fantastic! i probably won't use the particular ones you linked because the heads can't be bought seperately, but some of the other miniatures on there look really good

I bet you could convert some baneblades into siege tanks... in siege mode. That would be pretty epic.

Excuse me for stating the obvious, but what about ball bearings ? or the small "ball-chain" type xmas decorations ? both are smooth, shiny, come in all sizes and should sit in the neck recess ! 5mm - 6mm diameter should do it without overwhelming the shoulderpads, but that's just a guess. Bearings (pretty cheap) http://www.bearingshopuk.co.uk/metric-39-c.asp Decorations (even cheaper, but slightly larger) http://www.poundland.co.uk/product-range/a-z/assorted-9ft-ribbon-and-bead-garlands/ Just a thought.

the only problem I can see is the fact that if your fitting a head into a bubble style helmet you want to be able to turn your head so your going to have to use something bigger than a space marine helmet justlook at the size of a nasa space suit helmet for scale. If you can get hold of enough torso's with the armoured neck ring you could mount a ballbearing or similar into that and green stuff the detail onto that with the possibility of then casting them. you will still need legs and arms from kits tho so your not really saving any money but you could be saving yourself a lot of time. If you go down that route you would probably want to model two or three different versions to allow for models looking left, right and so on

mullet_steve makes an interesting point about the scale, so I took some measurements : Mark VI helmet is 7.5mm wide (including earpieces). Average clearance between shoulderpads (allowing for pose) is between 9mm and 10mm (sounds big, but check for yourself - I was !). On that basis, an 8mm bearing (or similar) should hit the middle ground for scale, allowing for "head movement" as mullet_steve so rightly mentioned. mullet_steve : "... two or three different versions to allow for models looking left, right and so on." given your NASA comparison, I'm not sure about this. The helmet you mentioned doesn't move, which is why they allow the internal space you mention, so extra versions would seem superfluous - "dramatic licence" and variety of modelling options notwithstanding of course. Hope this helps (if nothing else, it was an interesting distraction for me )

that's an interesting idea about the bearings.. if i were to greenstuff around it to make the helmet itself, leaving the bearing itself exposed for the visor (god knows how i'm going to manage that, my previous greenstuff attempts have been... yeah..) that could work quite well.
Also, that gives the possibility of having open visors as well, if i buit the helmet from greenstuff around the bearing and then remove the bearing itself (the greenstuff won't bond with the metal, will it?) i can then use one of the space marine heads, paint it, then place the helmet over that..
as i said, this may be overly ambitious for my level of skill, but if i'm going to fail i'm going to fail in style, dammit
Oh, just wondering if you guys could help me on another matter? the terran tend to customise their armor a fair amount (just look at the paintings and such on Tychus' armor, for example- i'll try and scrounge a screenshot if you don't play the game) and because i doubt i can paint the little details at that scale, i'm thinking of doing custom transfers; how small can you do a transfer? i've never used them before, so i don't know how well they'll work.

How about using a normal space marine helmet, drill out the top front bit, add the bearing in, then use a bit of green stuff to patch up the top? So you can have the bead as the visor and keep the space marine helmet respirator.

As small as you like, really. If you can print it, you can do it !
Glad the bearings idea is useful. Liking the idea of the open helmets too

Thunderhawks to vikings... Terminators to marauders and firebats would be pretty awesome. If I wasn't busy I'd start some of these to try and find a good way to make 'em for you. Maybe a warhound could become the Odin lol.

You make an excelent point about nasa space suit helmets not revolving (stupid boy steve ignoring your own metaphore!) maybe if you greenstuffed the helmet on one of the old style (crusader I believe) SM torso's and then cut it in half front and back to remove the thing but then the visor is going to be tricky isn't it unless your local hobby store has some clear acrilic beads you could hollow out and polish? hmmmm way to much work that way

hey guys, status update- i had a few odds and ends from an old pack of assault marines i never finished assembling, and have started work on a very basic prototype of the reaper; as they don't use the visored helmets i can start experimenting with what i have. The helmet seems fairly similar to the standard marine one, so i've continued the 'ridge' at the top of the helmet down using greenstuff, towards the 'mouth' of the helmet, and have also made the tubes running from the mouthpiece to the suit itself; will post some pics when i've got it looking reasonable.
here's what it should roughly resemble:
the only issue i'm having is the shape of the jump-packs; the reaper's packs are more straight and cylindrical than the assault marines'. Just want your opinions, should i just stick with the standard ones? one solution i have thought of is to stick some shoulderpads over the vents of the jump-pack, then greenstuff the gaps?
cheers for all your feedback so far
