Simple, if I'm going to 1000 pts, and I have only 900, am I only allowed 225 pts of hero, rather then 250?

Technically speaking, yes. Most of the time people allow some leeway as matching the points exactly is rather hard.

When you play a game against an opponent, you agree to a certain points limit. Your %'s are based off that point limit. At least thats how I read the original post. He has only 900 points but instead of playing a 900 point game (which you are allowed to OP) he is playing a 1k game.

So in a 1k game, you are allowed 250 on Lords, 250 on Heroes, 500 on Special, and you must spend 250 on Core.

If you choose to only spend 900 out of 1000, that is your choice. Nothing would preclude you from spending your 250 on your Lord, provided you followed the rules for the rest of the army composition.

No, when you have a "1000 point game" you point limit is 25% of the limit you are playing.
If you only bring 900 points in total, you can still have a 250 point hero.

Thats how it's played, but by RAW the percentage is based on your total army cost, which is just stupid.

From context this is the points total you have agreed.

It CANNOT be the points you have spent on your army (your army total) otherwise you could only spend 25% of the points you have spent on {hero, core, special, rare}, but for rare you can only spend 25% of {lore, hero, core, special} meaning you must build your army using core first. And, at most, you could only ever spend 25% of your core selection...

Um no since once you start adding things to your list the army total increases, regardless it is intended and indeed played to be based on the agreed points limit.

As I said, "points" refers to the "points" agreed earlier on (over the page) - it NEVER has anything to do with your army total, as that would be nonsense given the terms used.

In practicality, you're always going to take 25% of the limit. I'm not going to venture into the RAW here, just saying

This is ridiculous. Has anyone, ever, gone into, say, a 2,000 game with a 1,990 point list, and been told their 498 points of heroes is breaking the limit. Seriously?

Play safe in the lnowledge such bull won't come up, and if it does just pack up and find another, better opponent.

if you are playing 1000 point game, you may have up to or equal to 250 points of lords, 250 points of heroes, 500 points of special. But you must have 251+ points of core units, AND you must have 3?4? units total.

3 units at the minimum, one general and two non-characters units.

So you are going to 1000 points. I asume going is playing a game for 1000 points. If thats the case you are allowed up to 25% (250 points).

The fact you bring 900 points to a 1000 point game is irrelevant. It is that simple.

My question to you is, why you want to brign 900 points instead of 1000? Its like.. bringing a knife to a gun fight.

Wait, is it 3 units, possibly including character, you must have or three non char units? I thought the latter, but I would be happy to be wrong

Sorry dude, didn't mean to be rude, I think it's a fair question for a first time player. I was more commenting on the debate that was developing between the more experienced players, who would know what people check for when they look at someone else's list, and would know that no-one ever checks for this problem.
