This may seem like a small issue to most people, but the clutter left behind by people that can't read the rules for the Swap Shop is beginning to impede forward progress by people that *do* adhere to Swap Shop rules and regulations.

I've just come back from an extended vacation and bumped my trade thread under the proper rules and regulations... and immediately afterwards, 3 people *illegally* bumped theirs overtop mine.

See this pic: http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/9282/issueu.jpg

Now, this may seem unimportant, but when a trade thread goes past the first page, its a lot less likely that its going to get seen. This rule has been in effect for long enough... I think the mods should look into stepping up their punishment of these threads. I would like to see people get their threads deleted instead of locked, so that it doesn't bump down the users who follow the rules to the letter. The rule does state...

Updates/Bumping
Users who create multiple threads pushing the same trade/sale or who continuously bump their threads (posting in your thread to push it to the top of the forum even though you are not adding anything of value to the thread) will have their threads locked or deleted and potentially have their accounts suspended (if they continue to do it after being warned). While you are free to edit your initial post as often as you would like, please be mindful of these rules regarding bumping:
# Limit yourself to one self-bump every 4 days, at minimum, unless you are responding to a question and supplying more information (Note: posts responding to questions with more information do reset your 4 day bump period)

... so it isn't like the thought of deleting these threads is an extreme step up. The rule allows for it, and I think it should be implemented.

I think it is the rule itself that is flawed. I got my thread locked for posting requested information two days after my last post instead of four. If someone pms a request for info, you shouldn't be punished for trying to put it it in yourmain post so everyone can see it.

We're open to feedback on this, but the problem is that deleting threads is a bit harsh... and we try to save that for more extreme cases of rules infractions, or users who repeatedly get their threads locked without adjusting to the post-day-limit.

But as you can see from this thread, you want a harsher penalty, while FoxPhoenix135 wants a lesser one...

Ideally, the post-day-limit would be automatic, but I think it is too difficult to implement in the code. We may be able to get a pop-up message implemented that warns posters that they were within the 4 day limit before they click submit. But even then, the actual enforcement of this will be all manually done.

Suffice it to say, it's a lot of work! So the more people that can simply wait 4 days before bumping their own post, the better it is for everybody... myself heartily included

The four day bump rule should be made more clear, such as in the title of a stickied thread in the forum. As it is, people who infraction upon the rules either do not know, forget, or in the worst case, blatantly ignore Dakka's rules.
