WHat is the funniest/worst mess up that you ever had (regarding rules) when you were new to Warhammer 40k?

My first few games I thought Twin linked meant a weapon fired two shots, and when I very first started playing I thought each close combat weapon had it's own specific profile, and got mad when I couldn't find it in the rule book reference section

Also, my first few games I thought that when a transport exploded, the unit inside all died. I was so ticked when I found out otherwise, because I had lost like 3 games because I thought that. (Me and my friends started playing at around the same time; I was the first to get AOBR)

May the the blessings of His Grace the Emperor tumble down upon you like a golden fog. (Only a VERY select few will get this reference. And it's not from 40k. )

I played in a team game with my buddy who introduced me to 40k, and the army I brought was so badly out of comp, and completely ignored FOC it was ridiculous. Funny thing is nobody noticed until after the first game when the store owner reluctantly told me (the new player) that I could not compete in the tourney. I was also soundly beaten in that first game, broken list and all

I used a chinese measuring tape, which apparently had inches that were equivallent to about 3cms (a normal inch is 2.54 cms for those of who dont know). didnt realise it until my opponent tried to rapid fire, failed to do so due to distance, then I charged him with an infantry-type model.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

Had that confusion for awhile. My friend started playing before me, but didn't play much and only with his cousins. So we had lots of things that didn't work and I didn't realize until I was actually reading the rulebook.

Worst was when he told me that models shoot with attacks (i.e. 3 attacks meant you could fire your gun 3 times), and he played tau
