Ok to start I hate and I do mean HATE Mech lists no matter the army, I hate Mech Guard, Mech Marines, Mech Eldar, etc. I hate them because I think they are cheesy, boring to play against, and boring to play.
I recently played a fellow in an 1850pt tournament who was using Gunline Vanilla Mech Marines. This isn't the first time I have gone up against Gunline Marines. Once in a 1500pt tournament I went up against them and got toasted as well.
I play Blood Angels my list consisted of, Dante, Mephiston, 2 Tactical Squads with Lascannons and Meltaguns, an Assault squad with Meltaguns, a LRR with TH/SS Termies in it, and a Predator with all Lascannons. I gotten beaten pretty badly, actually wiped by turn 4, and I was wondering how in the Feth do you beat a Gunline Vanilla Marine army. They are like Mech Guard only worse because they don't die as easily.
Help!

cheers I hate mech too. since you're playing blood angels anyway take assault marines! they're cheap and fast and with a sanguinary priest backing them up they're tough as nails and extremely rough on the charge. vs. a gunline guard army give everything a jump pack - if it doesnt have a jump pack dont put it in your army - hold everything in reserve and use descent of angels to drop in cover next to them. they get 1 turn to shoot you, then they die. good luck!

Help!
It'd help to know what his list was, approximately.

The key to beating any gunline is getting into cc asap. Which is why I sort of find it hard to believe your blood angels have a tough time. I don't have experience with blood angels but I play a counter attack gunline sm army so maybe I can help.
First off drop the tac squads and replace with assault marines, you get them as troops I understand, though I have not even looked inside a BA codex. Use them to get up in his face asap. If he has any speeders take them down quickly as that is probably his only mobility, then focus on tac squads, they are easy to drop in cc and once they are gone you win 2/3rds of the time.
It's hard to give real good advice without his list, or a list of how your game went bad but play to table him, dont leave anything sitting in the back bring everything you got to his front door and knock real loud.

Well, i can say your BA army doesn't appear to be the best. My gunline army would wipe it off turn 3 if i rolled average.
2 Tac squads? why? change them into Assault squads.
you are spending ALOT of points in Dante and Meph. drop one of them and get more stuff.
you have NO priests. you need that FNP in your assault squads. FNP on 3+ armor is a to get rid of.
you don't want mech and i respect you for that. BA can do non-mech really well.
3 ten man Assault squads, Dante and a couple of Priests with Jpacks will form the bulk of your army. then a LRR with TH/ SS terminators and a Priest with TDA for some nasty CC goodness.

Hey guys thanks for the advice so far I see some of you are wondering what was in his army. Hopefully this helps, but the advice so far is sound. I'm thinking of dropping Dante he didn't do that well.
My opponents list
Librarian with SS in a squad of TH/SS Termies with Avenger and Null zone. (He deep struck those)
2 Dreadnaughts with dual Twin-Linked Autocannons.
2 Rhino's full of Tactical marines with Missile Launchers and Plasma guns, 2 Razorbacks with Lascannons/Plasma gun inside were 5 man squads of Tactical Marines with Meltaguns.
3 seperate Attack Bikes with Multi-Melta's.
Thunderfire Cannon
2 Predators with Autocannons and Lascannon sponsons.
Basically what he did the whole game was just sat back and let me come to him. My Land Raider was destroyed on turn 2 and my Termies were forced to walk the rest of the way. Even with a Sang Priest I still got destroyed because I never got FnP from those stupid Plasma Guns and Lascannons. My assault squad used Dante's Tactical Precision to Deep Strike right behind his Razorback and destroyed it but then got assaulted by a dreadnaught that made them run and cut them down. My Tactical squads didn't do squat and got destroyed by that Thunderfire Cannon. Last but not least my Predator destroyed 1 Dreadnaught and a Rhino before getting destroyed by his Terminators who also wiped out my other Tactical Squad and Mephiston (who attempted to take down the Librarian) got killed by the Terminators.
The list he was using was good, but not unbeatable. Under normal circumstances I could have done better maybe even a draw, but my dice rolls were HORRIBLE Dante should not have been cut down and for that matter I shouldn't have failed a LD 9 test (LD 10 but he killed 1 guy). Thanks for the continued tactics!

definitely drop dante. compare him to the sanguinor: look how much stronger the sanguinor is for just 50 more poingts. or run mephiston. or run another assault squad. but in any case drop dante.

Well, Dante couldn't have gotten Swept because you have ATSKNF. you would just have taken armor saves as if fearless unless you escaped.
Now he might not have remembered that you had ATSKNF, but you definitly should have.

WOW Grey Templar I totally forgot about ATSKNF! I still don't think I could have won the game but it certainly might have given me time to destroy the dreadnaught.
I feel angry at myself right now!
