1) If you have a unit of let's say 10 Vanguard Veterans. They are all equipped with different wargear. One with Meltabombs, one with SS/PW, one with SS/PF, one with SS/PF Meltabombs, one with SS/chainsword, one with SS/bolt pistol, one with PW/bolt pistol etc. etc. All different wargear. If I suffer 4 wounds from shooting, do I roll all 4 armor saves at the same time and just remove any model I want? Or because they have different wargear would I have to clarify who will be taking saves first and then roll for their armor saves individually?

2) Let's say it's a squad of 10 Vanguard Veterans with all the same wargear. If I suffer 4 wounds from shooting, do I roll all 4 armor saves at the same time and just remove any model I want? How do I roll saves for this unit?

3) What about if it's a squad of 10 Assault Marines. 2 have melta guns, Sergeant has a Power First, the rest are pistol/chainsword. If I suffer 4 wounds from shooting, do I roll all 4 armor saves at the same time and just remove any model I want? Or because they have different wargear would I have to clarify who will be taking saves first and then roll for their armor saves individually? (Exp. 1 melta, 1 regular, 1 sgt)?

I talked about it with a friend and he told me that I can roll all the saves and remove whatever I want. But I got further confused after I read the Caulaties removing section in the Rulebook. Can I please get some clarification on this?

Thanks.

allocate and roll each individually

basically say not the sgt roll saves pick off models

allocate and roll wounds seperate unless they have the same wargear. in this case it would be best to just put wounds on the normal guys tho

In this instance you HAVE to CLEARLY allocate. This is because if you pass 3/4 saves you don't know which indivdual guy failed his save and since theyare armed differently it matters. Sometimes a lot!

Yes since they are all the same and there's more than 4 it does not matter.

Right there's 10 marines, 2 MG and SGT. You can pop the 4 on anyone you want. However if say there were 12 wounds you would have to assign *at least* 1 to everyone first (so 7 normal, 2 MG 1 SGT) then allocate the rest (so probably 9 normal, 2 mg and 1 on sgt) then make 9 saves for 'normal' dudes. If you fail 8, only 7 still die. Make 2 for the MG guys and 1 seperatly for th Sgt.

That make sense?

That makes sense for the first 2 but for the last one confuses me.

Why do you not have to allocate wounds to the Melta's or PF Sgt.? Since there are different models with different wargear don't you have to allocate 1 wound to each model with different wargear first?

I've been playing the correct way, and I'm sure your right and all but I just don't understand why it says in the rules then that you can choose where to allocate when the character models have the same profile, wargear, weapons, and special rules. Since there are different weapons (2x with Meltas and 1x with a PF) why do you get to choose to allocate the 4 wounds onto 4 normal guys instead of having to allocate 1x to meltas 1x pf 1x to normal guys then 1x to whichever.

The rulebook is confusing me >_<

allocate the wounds
if you have 7vets 2 melta vets, 1 sarge
ets say you have 5 wounds, you may now place 5 wounds on the normal men (vets)

however if you had 8 wounds you would have to place a wound on the melta vet or sarge
7 vets, 1 sarge

Now with 13 wounds,
1 sarge, 2 meltavets, 10 vets

you only have to allocate on a special weapon, sarge, etc if there are enough wounds to force you

Ok. Thanks! That makes much more sense now.

Example:

You take 12 wounds.

You assign one each to the 7 normal guys, one each to the melta guys, one to the sarge. Two wound left so you assign two more to the normal guys.
You roll 9 saves for the normals. If you fail more than seven you still only take seven away - those wounds were not assigned to the meltas or sarge.
You roll 2 saves for the meltas (not one each)
You roll 1 save for the sarge.

You don't have to assign wounds to anyone in particular but you can't assign anyone a second wound till everyone's got one or a third wound till everyone's got two.
Then you group the wounds into piles where the models are identical and roll them all together.

You are confused because you are missing a step. Role all saves from models with the same gear.

You can allocate wounds to your which models you want, as long as every one has 1 before a model gets a second. Do that step first.

Now, look at the models that have wounds allocated to them with the same gear. Pick up and roll a save for each wound allocated to those models with the same gear.

Now that you have rolled saves for that one group of models with the same gear, remove models for which the wounds kill. So for maries, each wound rolled in that group causes a model to be removed.

Important, only models with with the same gear can be killed with those wounds. Wounds do not carry over to other groups of models with different gear.

Move to the next group of models with the same gear and roll their saves. Continue until you are done being killed.

Just to beat the dead horse with a stick, unless a squad is 100% identical, you must allocate before rolling.

If you have more "bobo's" or guys there just to soak up wounds (default equipped models) then you are free to allocate all the wounds to that type of model so it may seem as though you are skipping allocation, but you still are.

It's only when you have more wounds than the number of guys in a single wargear loadout type that you will become forced to allocate to more valuable squad members such as PF or Melta etc.

Orks are a great example. If you have 30 boys with 1 nob, that nob is essentially at no risk of taking a wound until the units been whittled down substantially.
