With a movement of only 1, the disc of tzeentch seems almost useless if you plan to be anywhere near combat.
His flee and pursuit rolls would be dangerously low, or am I interpreting the rules wrong?

Movement of 1 also makes terrain problematic, if you somehow got stuck in some woods or something.
Are they viable for a non-sorcerer?

Edit: Another WoC question.
Regarding the magic item The Black Tongue; when it says "The owning character then takes a wound that cannot be saved by any means" do they mean the owner of The Black Tongue or the owner of the spell that was not cast?
I assume the former, but wanted to clarify.

Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee.

Your movement has nothing to do with flee and pursuit rolls. The movement is a pain when you can't fly (also due to certain magic items or spells or whatever), but it's a pretty cheap flying mount, so not too shabby.

Overall, very viable.

For the second, it is the owner of the black tongue.

yes it does, for fleeing at least. Flying models fleeing use their ground movement value instead of their flying movement value according to the BRB.

Second, yes its the owner of the black tongue.

When does that matter? You are rolling 2d6 or 3d6, 2 highest... the movement value doesn't make any difference.

Personally, I enjoy the weird image of a disc rider, grounded because of the storm banner or some such, charging 1+2D6".

“It was in lands of the Chi-An where she finally ran him to ground. There she kissed him deeply as he lay dying, and so stole from him his last, agonized breath.

On a delicate chain at her throat, she keeps it with her to this day.”

I've seen it happen. But that's only on charges, not flee/pursue, which was the question.

A disc wizard is very viable due to Mark of Tzeentch giving him access to the 3+ ward save against everything, and also coming with chaos armor (enchanted shield gives him a 1+ save). Other sorts of flying characters have to worry about being shot, but not this guy, he shrugs off cannonballs like a horse shrugs off horseflies, and laughs at arrows and bullets as well. He's also very very difficult to catch to kill in close combat. Nasty stuff. Don't leave home without him.

Same is true for a disc lord, with more killy and less spelly.

Discs: not just for pointy headed sorcs anymore!

Be careful with that, my disc lord sucked hard in 7th, running away from combat with most anything after whiffing. Yes the changes to ASF and the generic items mean you can build much better disc lords, but still be careful of solo-charging around. Now disc exalteds, you can't fit as much gear on but you get a lot more fighty value for the points, and your lord can hang around with the boys and offer his LD9 around

Good point. I like the idea of the surprise hero/lord paratrooper, shooting over the main enemy lines and either killing war machines or setting up for a rear charge the next turn. Not exactly advanced tactics, but pretty funny

T.O.

Do the flyer rules say that they can only use swiftstrider while flying? Cause otherwise they get to use that for the M1 charge.

Please put this on your sig if you know someone, work for someone or are related to someone who suffers from stupidity. Stupidity is real and should be taken seriously. You could be sitting next to a sufferer right now. There is still no known cure for stupidity and sympathy does not help. But we can raise awareness.... 93% won't copy and paste this because they don't know how to copy and paste

You can fly 10" in a charge as well, can't you?

Yes but the question was when you can't fly, for whatever reason.

Like you are in a unit of marauders say. Gotcha. Doesn't swiftstride require the entire unit to have it to use it though?

I think he's more thinking something like Storm Banner, Howling Warpgale or the bret Falcon Horn, all which restricts flyers.

If I use -><- I'm not mocking you, it's a reflex from using the " silly" icon on every other forum.
However, if I use this -><- I might just mock you.

Ahh good point, hadn't been aware of those other possibilities. It is a shame the Tizzy man can't just use his own MV stat; it would be kind of a funny mental image of the guy hopping off and dragging the disc, flailing and wailing, into the battle. "Dagnabbit! When I say 'Charge!' I mean 'CHARGE' ya dumb galoot!"
Actually, it still works I guess, and now I want to model Chaos Lord Yo'zemit E'zam on a disc.
