Deployment

I won the roll off and deployed first. I deployed my Chimeras forward with Leman Russes behind along with Vendettas, the Manticore (proxy Russ) was hidden behind the larger tower ruin.

Dave deployed his Tyranids mkaing most of the cover he had, he put the Gants in cover along with a unit of Warriors with a Prime, behind the Warriors the Raveners and close to a larger ruin was two squads of Hive Guard. More over to my table edge was the Tyrannofex, other Hive Guard, Hormagaunts and the other Warrior unit. He then infilitrated one unit of Stealers my side of the board to the right of my armour and the other in a large ruin near his main forces.

Tactical Notes

I'll blast the Trygon through cover with the Vendettas as it can get into range pretty quickly. I'll use the Hellhound on the Genestealers and use the Leman Russ by the other 'Stealers on my board edge to blow them to pieces with multi laser support. After that I'll be going for the Hive Guard and then the Tyrannofex.

Turn 1

Dave attempts to seize the initiative put fails.

Not a huge amount of movement from myself. I roll the Leman Russ a bit closer to the Genestealers while the Hellhound heads off to burn some Genestealers with melta Veteran support. Other Chimeras position so can blast 'Stealers with multi lasers.

Shooting I torrent both Stealer squads with everything I have more or less, both squads survive but battered. I get a single shot for my Manticore and fire it at the Warriors, kills a Ravener and two Warriors if I remember right, maybe a few Termagants too. I blast the Trygon with Vendettas but thanks to good placement by Dave the Trygon gets cover and only receives a single wound.

In Daves turn he moves his horde into cover making sure units can get better cover or into range better. He moves both his Stealer units out, one towards the Hellhound the other towards the Leman Russ.

Shooting Dave pops the Chimera supporting the Hound, breaks a heavy flamer on another Chimera and immobilises and shakes a Vendetta. The squad inside the blown up Chimera takes some wounds, they fail morale and fall back.

In assault both Stealers charge the Hound and Russ, the Russ is wrecked thanks to rending and the Hound is weapon destroyed and shaken - the flamer turret is chosen by Dave.

Kill points Guard 0: Tyranids 3

Tactical Notes

Ok it's a bad start with Daves shooting blowing up a Chimera and taking out a Vendetta for a turn, add to that the Genstealers have scored him another point by totalling my Russ and taken the Hound out of action for a turn.

My plan next turn is to move heavy flamers into range of the Genestealers and wipe them out, then start blasting the Warriors and Raveners again from afar and blast the Trygon some more. I'll deal with the Hive Guard next turn once the threat of Genestealers on my door step has been taken care of.

Turn 2

I regroup my falling back Guardsmen and run them into terrain for cover on the ground floor away from any potential Biovore bombing. I move a plasma Veteran Chimera up by the Hound, the Hound attempts to move through terrain and is grounded - bummer! I attempt to move another Chimera loaded with melta Veterans through terrain to get the 'Stealers and immobilise that too - gak! I move remaining Chimeras to unload into the 'Stealers which popped my Leman Russ.

Shooting I blast the 'Stealers which did the Hound some damage wiping them out with plasma and flamer earning me a kill point. I blast the other Stealer unit with heavy flamers, multi laser and plasma finally killing them and netting another kill point. I get 3 shots with the Manticore this time bombing the Warriors and Raveners, it scatters badly off the board for the second and third blasts but I manage to leave only two Raveners standing and two Warriors.

In Daves turn he moves some more, but mostly sticking to terrain - luckily his Trygon gets a poor move through cover and run rolls which buys me some more time.

Shooting the immobilised Vendetta is blown up by the rupture cannon from the Tyrannofex, and some heavy flamers are blown off - that's about it.

Kill points are Guard 2: Tyranids 4

Tactical Notes

Ok I was starting to catch up and Daves claims another kill point with the Tyrannofex, damn! I'll treat it to a plasma manicure in a minute At least the Genestealer threat has been taken out but it's taken my entire army to kill them and put a few more wounds on the Trygon so nothing massively cool - also the wounded units which the Manticore damaged have moved into terrain properly now so will be getting cover saves; damn!

Next turn I'll point the Manticore onto the other Warrior unit out in the open with Hive Guard, Tyrannofex and Hormagaunts around so if it scatters must hit something - hopefully can I.D me some Warriors and get a point. I'll move up that plasma Veteran unit which gave the Genestealers some plasma treatment and blast the Raveners away, hopefully. I've got to wait until the Trygon exposes itself (hey hey!) and let it have it, but until then it's lascannon death for it.

Turn 3

I roll the plasma Veteran Chimera up so they can blast Ravener ass, I move the rest of the Chimeras so they can blast Hive Guard, Warriors and flame some Hormagaunts which are hiding in the big shrine ruin.

Shooting I blast the Raveners and leave on surviving, damn! I flame the Hormagaunts and give them some plasma death but half of them linger on. I blast the Hive Guard and put a wound on one. I fire the Manticore and get a two shots - first shot scatters but second shot goes back to where it was and leaves just a single Warrior and Prime alive - more kill points denied by few remaining models!

In Daves turn he moves the Trygon and Hormagaunts out of cover ready to launch a assault.

Shooting he blasts the plasma Veteran Chimera and pops it, he then bombs them with the Biovore which lands on target leaving only three remaining - they fail pinning test and are pinned! Another Chimera is popped ready for the Hormagaunts to assault.

In assault he charges the immobilised Chimera with the Trygon and easily makes it go boom, the Hormagaunts charge the Guardsmen and wipe them out after sweeping advance.

Kill points are Guard 2: Tyranids 8

Tactical Notes

Ok it's going amazingly gakky Dave has just reaped a massive 4 kill points by blowing up three Chimeras in quick succession and then mauled a squad of Guardsmen with Hormagaunts - not going well.

Plan is to pull that melta Veteran unit out of terrain I hid and use them to blast the Trygon along with the other melta Veteran unit which just got popped out their transport. I'll bail out one CCS unit and unleash plasma into the Hormagaunts, nothing else I can do to them - other CCS btw has no plasma guns left, they all over heated!!

Turn 4

Not a lot of movement from me this turn.

I some orders, one melta unit the re-roll cover save order as the Trygon will get cover and the other melta unit bring it down as the Trygon is right in front of them.

Shooting I blast the Trygon and kill it, yay a kill point! I blast the Hormagaunts with plasma not leaving many left but they pass morale and stick around, doh! I drop the Manticore getting 3 shots this time.

In Daves turn his Hormagaunts fail synapse and rage off going towards a Chimera leaving along vulnerable Veteran squads in the open. He hides a solo Hive Guard as one must have been killed previously and moves the Prime and Warrior towards a Chimera with the solo Commander in.

Shooting Dave torrents the Chimera the Hormagaunts are raging at but just does stunned and weapon destroyed results - so my bacon saved there. He blasts the rear of a exposed Chimera and pops it with melta Veterans coming out. The Hound gets blown up by Hive Guard

In assault the Prime and Warrior charge the Chimera and wreck it, another point for Dave. Termagants charge the pinned Veteran unit from last turn and kill them, another point!

Kill points Guard 3: Tyranids 11

At this point we call it a day as my Daughter is kicking off a fuss (yes I'm using her as a excuse to run with my tail inbetween my legs!) and plus I've got no or very little way of catching Dave up. Only things I could have done was blast the Hormagaunts and maybe kill them and perhaps kill the Prime and Warrior, that would have been it.

Summary

That didn't go well at all :( Daves Genestealers were a bit of a pain in the ass asborbing so much fire power leaving his other stuff to advance, though at the range only multi lasers would have had affect on the Hive Guard anyway.

I should have perhaps left the Trygon - it reached my lines anyway and focused fire on the Tyrannofex as it was just standing there out in the open - I just perceived that Trygon as a bigger threat due to it's speed, which TBH, Dave didn't have this game with it.

Other than that I think it was just the roll of the dice, I just couldn't finish off units and I left a Ravener, Hormagaunt, Hive Guard and two Warrior units severely wounded which would have netted me 7 kill points thanks to the Primes being I.C, but alas, it was not to be! Damn Daves Hive Guard, they really put the pain in! The Tyrannofex I wasn't massively impressed with TBH and Dave loves his Biovore

List wise I think it's fine. Vendettas did ok, Manticore was medicore but if and when it hits it does seriously damage so I'm keeping it - just bad luck it didn't total Warriors and Raveners thanks to scattering. Both Russes did ok landing on target, shame one didn't last a huge amount of time.

Well done Dave!
