okay, so for those of you who do not know, I am starting a fluffy heresy-era raven guard army using the BA codex. The red thirst will be the genetic flaw, sanguard will be honour guard, DC dread will be a monster sanguinary preist will be an apothecary, ect. Thing is, I am getting the BA codex for christmas. What unit(s) should I get for my army as a starting point? I already have 2 tac. squads, a sang. priest, a SC (stamped).

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I'm leaning towards either DC dread (well, I'm not using the model, just the rules, using a grendel-type model as the monster) or sanguard.

Ravenguard favours jump packs and guerilla tactics. go with assault troops first.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

I'd say assault squad, because quick, guerilla attacks are the way the raven guard perform.

I voted Tactical Sqd, because even in BA army's they are still the backbone. But an assault sqd is also a nice choice for BA's with the supporting rules for this type of unit, not to mention you can remove their JP and get a discount on a transport for them. Either way, these two choices are best to start with.

4250 points of Blood Angels goodness, sweet and silky W12-L6-D4
1000 points of Teil-Shan (my own scheme) Eldar Craftworld in progress
800 points of unassembled Urban themed Imperial Guard
650 points of my do-it-yourself Tempest Guard
675 points of Commoraghs finest!

@Element: Tacticals are a backbone? Huh, I haven't seen them in a BA list yet. Assault marines either with jump packs or razorback spam are what I'm used to seeing. That said Shrike, go for the assault marines that so many people are suggesting-great taking off point for a BA army.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

okay- I was gonna get sanguard and then later get a couple of assault squads, but now I have a spare £5...that'll cover the FW postage cost (I'm getting the raven guard upgrade set to go with them)
