Spinefists or Devourers? Since I'm gonna deep strike them I figured I should let em do something ones they arrive (btw, it really blows that they can't tear into the enemy ones they arrive). I figured Devourers since I'll probably DS them so the enemy can't assualt me in their phase, but I'd deal alot more wounds with the spinefists. Best option would be Deathspitter, but I'm not taking Ravenors for more guns so, want something cheap. Any opinions on this?

If you want to deep strike outside assault range, then it has to be the devourers since the spinefists only shoot 12".

Deepstriking inside assualt range wont do me any good since you can't assualt after deep strike. Still, if I can get enough spinefist shoots into a enemy unit it might go down before it can even assualt

spinefist is s3 ap5. devourer is s4 ap-. The higher strength will cause more dead models because it will force more saves. anything with a 5 or 6+ armor is going to fail most of them anyway, go with the devourers. the -1 ld check is also nice if you cause enough wounds. Also, better range. Devourers all the way.

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it.

You said you didn't want to deepstrike so close that your opponent could assault your raveners. If you get spinefists and want to be able to shoot with them, their 12" range puts you inside the assault range of nearly every unit in the game. Only the deathspitters and devourers have the range to let you deepstrike and shoot without being close enough to get assaulted on your opponent's turn. Even that is not a sure thing since there are many units that can assault up 18" these days.

I can think of a few circumstances where you want to reposition the raveners by running instead of shooting:

(1) The deep strike deviated and the raveners need to run to get a better position;
(2) Running raveners to get into cover;
(3) Running raveners to spread out against template weapons.

Since raveners need cover badly (due to having awful saves and their weakness to S8 shots) and its dangerous to deep strike into cover I'd think the raveners would almost always be running instead of shooting.

It seems to me that if you take weaponds on a ravener, it is usualy best to use that after that first charge. Because eather if you deep strike or just run across the board you want to scatter them or move closer. But after that 19-24 charge round you are usualy close enough to both shoot and charge, witch is one bad deal for your oponent. You might consider the psycic power on the broodmother(?) witch lets them run and shoot and charge.

Be careful if you shoot before the assault. Your opponent may remove the models in front and prevent the charge.

Gonna necro this thread abit (should be ok since it's my thread right?) and ask the question: Should Ravenors have range weapons? I'm thinking mainly about Branderics three points when I ask this. Sure 5 points/model aint that much for some extra firepower, but that fire power could come in the form of a extra body in my Warriors mobile-cover-bug-wall. Or maybe in the form of rending on my Ravenors. So what is dakkadakkas opinion on this?
