Many of us want to know what the deal is with the two missing legions, so I'm not including them as an option.

To be honest: none of the above. I kinda like sensation of having the past shrouded in mythology and half forgotten. Part of the reason why I was nervous about the HH series. Before that series came out, speculating about what the primarchs were like 10k years ago and how their legends and the events of the Heresy had been inflated via imperial propaganda was kinda interesting to me.
Rather Gee-Dub spend their time advancing the story line an inch or two. Fat Chance.

I love the idea of advancing the story line, but really, if they arnt going to do anything to get the Imperium out of grimdark territory, I don't see much point. The only people who are doing anything close to that is -surprise surprise- Fantasy Flight games with their role play games.

And since I also love the idea of fleshing out what came before, I'd love to know the specific back stories of it all. Myth is nice, but I'd rather know the epic stories of the Primarchs and what came before them in full detail.

I also have a secret desire to play 29K, with armies of techno barbarians on terra (every army is a proxy ork army! ) duking it out for supremacy

I would like to know more about the Dark Age of Technology. How were the STC constructs made and what was the peak of mankinds power and technology? How much has the Mechanicus lost through its religion and zealotry?

The Imperium using advanced technology is like drinking Pepsi out of a Coke bottle.

Fall of the old ones-easy, they built a road where the chaos powers didnt want a road, one of the powers frowned with irritation and the old ones civilisation was obliterated in a moment.

I read "the last temple of terra" and that was really intersting. So I say unification wars.

If I was interested in knowing peoples opinions about options others then those given, I would have put an "other" option

(Not to rag on you, its just I'm interested in what people would like to see in terms of the "ancient" history of 40k: anything more recent then Horus getting the Imperial backhand isn't what the poll is trying to gauge )

In that case the one I dislike the least is the start of the Great Crusade. I have no interest in learning more about pre-Imperial society, and hate how the Necrons and the C'tan got shoved down everybody's throats with the 3rd edition fluff.
