Well after a long hiatus from 40k, I am returning.

A few questions.

First, someone told me that they have removed the ally rule from daemon and witch hunters via faq or errata or some other published material. Is this true?

I also heard that psychic hoods no longer work if your model is in a transport. Is this true?

Someone have a link to the current faq/errata list from gw's site?

Thanks!

The downloadable DH/WH codex does indeed lack the allies rules, but nothing says your paper codex is somehow invalidated by this.

Hoods? Why wouldn't they work? You measure from the transport like any other effect that needs a measurement from the passenger.

They have released the DH and WH codexes on the website as PDFs. These PDFs do NOT have the ally rules, *however* they have not stated they are removed from the paper copies. So ifyou have the hard copy codexes you are good.

Psychic Hoods can technically not work while in a vehicle, as you must measure to the *model* and, unless you are alone, the Librarian cannot be measured to - the Unit can, but the model is not the Unit.

Gah, technicalities... I'll stick to DH/WH 'hoods then, no need to measure anything.

So we no longer go by the latest 'official' release but by what copy we happen to own as far as codices go?

Interesting. I wonder if my return to 40k for 'Ard Boyz is a waste of time if the rules are that far gone.

Thanks for the link to the faq's!

We go by the latest official release. However, the rules put up for DaemonHunters and WitchHunters isn't a new release. It's just GW's way of coping with the fact that the codexes are out of print, but still current. So, people assume that for those 2 codexes, the printed version is the most current, and the pdf is just a summary of the codex.

The pdf doesn't contain the pages that talk about allies, but that doesn't mean that allies was removed from the codex.

So it is a (stealth?) re-release with changes that are not used if you do not have the re-release?

How is that clear?

Let me expand on what Grakmar said;

The PDF's are the printed version, just with a few omissions/revisions. There is very little differences between the two(Biggest difference being the lack of the Allies rules, and the lack of Scenarios).

Now, per the rumor mill Grey knights/daemon hunters should be the next new codex out; the PDFs were more of a "placeholder" because they were not printing any more of the old Codex due to development of the New.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

That is more difference than the Necron update--in which the changes are used.

I would say that leaving out the ally rules would be more than a 'few omissions/revisions' that makes 'very little difference'. Meh. Let's hope it is a mute point by the time 'Ard Boyz comes around.

With the way gw release schedules go, we may all be up in the air when it's time to play.

Thanks for all the input folks!

Most people I've seen are still assuming allies works for DH/WH. Maybe it technically shouldn't any more, but as we all know, technically correct rules aren't always the ones people care about.

Also, it's moot point, not mute point.

And there debate about that minutiae already.

Throw into the mix how some of the other language versions of the PDF contain the allies.

Have to love GW and their loose rules.

Necron = Update
DH/WH = Online reprint of rules leaving out allies, becouse they are no longer going to put allies in any Codex. Not a update.

Changing the rules with a new release of the codex is not an update?

Ok. . .

Here I was thinking that making something different changed it.

See thats your problem the didn't change any rules.

Leaving crap out in order to save space is not rules... the paper codex I have is at 48 pages in the place the PDF ends at 32 pages. And as long as GW doesn't tell me my codex is outdated I'll use it. If that's a problem for you it's, well, your problem. I have a properly published GW codex and units are being sold on their site still.

So the rules for DH/WH are not changed when lacking the ability to have allies that were previously (otherwise?) available.

Got it.

Edited to remove redundancy.

Nope, and most player feel the same way aswell as tournament. As the last released paper Codex is the one GW tell us we should use, I'm guessing they feel the same way too.

So the digital release is not valid?!?

Not as a replacement for the physical release of the book, there only there becouse you can't walk in to a GW store and buy WH/DH anymore.

So what you are saying is that there are two versions that are different, yet both are from one book and neither has been changed nor has the book they are from been changed.

Or do you mean that the WH codex is for a different army than the WH codex is for? And the same is true for the DH?

welcome back. All you need to know is new grey knights book this spring. Allies 99% likely removed for all armies.

Psychic hoods work fine in vehicles. Nid psychic powers do not work on units in vehicles.

Shadow of the warp is only a shadow of its former self.

Under the couch

This isn't going anywhere productive.

Bottom line is simply this: The printed codex is valid. The PDF codex is also valid for those who don't have the printed codex, but does not include the allies rules.

The PDF doesn't over-ride the printed codex because GW said so on the website when they released the PDF.

Moving on.
