Okay, so i am looking to get into FoW, i'd like to play a late war American Mechanized list (1944 era, i have an actual unit i want to base it off of), what book would i grab to go about doing this?

Also, are there any good modern era wargames out there that actually have models? (i've looked but none have models so far)

The allied D-day book (Turning Tide) that is coming out in January is by far your best bet, although a bit pricey (Also available now as part of a very pricey box set with the german book). If you want something cheaper and more tank focused, 2nd and 3rd Armored Divisions are covered in the Cobra book. Bloody Omaha has some mech infantry lists too IIRC but is going to be combined with the cobra book and others in the forthcoming d-day book.

Personally I'm waiting for the battle of the bulge book before I start a US armoured force

...oh and of course Fortress Europe has the basic lists for flexible usage for all types of forces (infantry, mech, armoured, recon, etc) for US, German, Brits and Soviet.

Bloody Omaha doesn't have any mech infantry, but I can tell you, you need deep pockets if you want LW US Mechanized infantry. If you can shell out 400 or 500 dollars, I'd get the list in cobra. They have the most plentiful support, and it's changed a little bit in the new compilation.

Well, its that much with BF miniatures. If you don't mind going for lower quality miniatures, there's companies out there like this guy:

At $4 bucks a tank/vehicle as opposed to $12, it can save you a lot of money.
