Why are spirit stones on WS a religions debate? If you want to keep mobility as long as you can to deliver FD, tank shock, ram or just contest on the last turn. It will cost you ten points a WS. This almost the same cost of single guardian or 2/3 to half the cost of an aspect warrior. I have posted a few lists and the one I currently run has 5 WS 2 FP 1 NS all stoned. Someone always post “I would drop the stones” I see it as a total of 90 pts spent on an insurance policy that has worked every game for me. I love to go on a tank shocking objective contesting rampage when the troops are out and main weapons destroyed. No stones and it all stops when a PK or PF comes up and auto hits. A stunned vehicle is hit 100% of the time in CC the following turn. At least a shaken WS moving at 6+ is only going to get hit about 17% of the time in CC and if you flat out you get a 4+ from shooting and possibly avoid the CC. Every game I tell the opponent after he stuns my WS that ”I am stoned”, it has got to be worth ten points just to say that with a straight face 5-6 times a game.

They are helpful, but not every vehicle needs them. For one thing the stunned result is not that common, glancing hits are more likely to shake and melta/AP1 is more likely to destroy you. If you knew every vehicle was going to get stunned at least once every game then they would be a no brainer.

The main thing however is that being stunned is not the end of the world for many vehicles assuming you have good positioning skills. On a Serpent carrying Fire Dragons or some other close ranged unit then they are definitely worth it, you don't want to get stuck in close and crushed in combat. On vehicles which are going to be hanging back like Prisms, Falcons and some Serpents they aren't needed as you have no reason to get in close. You can stay at least 13" away (so 19" given they could have moved towards you in the turn you get stunned) and even if you get stunned you they shouldn't be able to reach you in combat. Pulling Stones off all the vehicles which didn't need them gave me enough points to take another Vyper, for the same 10pts you could also take an underslung Cannon instead.

Well, it depends on what you have to drop to take those stones. They are certainly a nice upgrade, but tossing 8 of them on all your vehicles is a bit much. You could get an extra Doomseer for those points.

Plus, you're only gaining an advantage on 1/6 of the glancing/penetrating hits to the vehicle. They're not that big of a deal.

I run Stones on two of my WS and those are the ones on my Fire Dragon Serpents. They are nice to have on the other WS but i always prefer havng other upgrades.

When you have 10 extra points, and really don't want to buy another guardian... then why not?

Especially if you plan on ramming it afterwards... with star engines.

I always take stones on my vehicles.

I suppose some of the vehicles at the back of the table (prisms, mainly) could do without them, but i feel that putting them on everything makes for some difficult choices for my opponents. Unless they immobilize you or worse, you're guaranteed to be able to move, which is key if it's turn 5+.

It eliminates the "shoot to stun" style of target priority. They have to devote significant amounts of firepower to each tank in order to limit contesting ability.

I take them for mobility and tank shocking. Ramming with them is very risky. Would need a 21 inch move to generate max strength S10 (21/3 +1 +2 )and anything with armor 11 + is hitting back with a S9-S10 hit. No energy field and no flat out save. Star Engines I am pretty sure don’t work for ramming/tank shocking as both these are part of “normal movement” phase and star engines are additional movement in the shooting phase. You could argue that star engine movement is “normal” in the shooting phase but that is it’s own argument.

Ironically, Holofields do work on ram damage, making Falcons much better at ramming than Wave Serpents.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

When people ask, "What's the point in understanding everything?" they've just disqualified themselves from using questions and should disappear in a puff of paradox. But they don't understand and just continue existing, which are also their only two strategies for life.

Only on serpents and only if I have points leftover. Those need the mobility to avoid getting blown up and losing their vulnerable cargo, but for everything else, I can never justify the expense.

There's just an acre of you fellas, isn't there?
