I noticed there was no thread all day. Well, its Dec 7, and Pearl Harbor was kind of important, so, discuss.

I heard it got bombed by the Germans, but that we didn't give up.

It sucked, we fought em, then we won. Thanks a ton Grandpa for island hopping the Pacific and then coming home to raise a family. In some ways I wish things were as simple as life back then. Good guys, bad guys, nationalism, strong economy. Sounds pretty damn fine to me!

it only seems that way on the surface. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug.

Yah, I know. I still prefer to view the 50's through my rose tinted Americana glasses TYVM. I also choose to believe that we landed on the moon.

Been thinking about it all day actually. My grandfather (mother's side) was a Reserve status officer training air corp cadets. He eventually went to the Pacific but shortly before/after the Japanese surrender in August. He kept several diaries throughout that time period where he wrote pretty much daily to my grandmother and aunt. My other grandfather (father's side) trained pilot and bomadier cadets on the c45, b17, b29 during the same time.

Today at school we yelled Banzai a few thousand times, chanted 'Yankee go home!', and screamed 'Feth you, Dolphin! Feth you Whale!' when answering questions during our pledge of allegiance to the Son of Heaven, an 80 Japanese guy with liver spots. That's how you celebrate 8 December.

Because of the International Date Line.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

I lost a grandfather in the Pacific. Death to the Empire of the Rising Sun, didn't come soon enough for the millions who suffered under it.
Never forgive. Never forget.
