As the title suggests, I am making a DoW army using all Pirazzo's Lost Legion Mini's. I'm looking for ideas for a priest holding up a cross or book to convert the heathen Lizardmen. Any ideas on religious dieties?

Tilea, IIRC, is based on Renaissance Italy, so Catholicism and all of it's rather rich imagery would be a great place to start. You could even reach back a little further for some Byzantium styled iconography.

Yoor Speeshawl too Gawd!

In the DOW book they only mention Myrmidia who is Athena, so think Greco Roman as well as some of the general dieties worshiped throughout the warhammer world like Shallaya.   Games Workshop has been amazingly vague on non Empire Brettonian religions

Only now do I realize how much I prefer Pete Haines' "misprints" to Gav Thorpe's "brainfarts." :Abadabadoobaddon

Pretty certain the coastal towns would have a strong feeling for Manan(sp?) as well. And Ranald would be worshipped by more people in Tilea than elsewhere... the little scamps..................^_^

Ahoj!
IIRC the cult of Morr has its central temple in Tilea too.
Morr, Myrmidia, Shallaya and Ranald are the "young Gods" from the civilized South, competing in the Empire with the "old Northern Gods" - Ulric, Tall and the Earth Mother.
I don't remember where Manan (there is a double "n" somewhere) comes into this.

Manan is somebody's brother, maybe Taal. Can't remember off hand. And you're right about the spelling, but I'm unsure where the extra 'n' comes in

If it were me doing a DOW Tilean army, I'd do an Icon of Shallya in a sort of Juno/ Madonna kind of pose with a bit of Latin or greek text as a motto beneath it such as "timidi flet non matribus" a coward's mother does not weep. For reference material I would suggest the Byzantium, Beyond the Golden Gate book or any of the osprey books about the Condottieri wars which the DOW army list is very loosely based on. A unit of Ogreish Papal Guards would be a great modelling project too. Also I'd not bother with a warpriest carrying a book to convert lizardmen. I'd perhaps have those ogres dressed instead as cardinals carrying their own version of "conversion" gear. Skewers, knives, flensing axes, and a big old barbeque, heck they look like the inquisition but really they're just out for some lizard souvlaki.

Actually Manann (correct spelling-from WD) is noones brother. Taal (correct spelling-from WD) is Ulric's brother. "Manann's largest temple is in Marienburg, and all his other temples pay it tribute" and "he is commonly depicted as a heavily built man wearing a crown of black iron, but can take the form of a great waterspout or sea monster".

The Hammer

I recall a while ago WD had some brilliant pictures of one fellow's "Army of Manann." He'd done his Knights on foam-green horses emerging from waves on their bases, crab-men as swordsmen, fish-men as halberdiers or spearmen, and a paddle-wheeler boat as his steam tank.

When soldiers think, it's called routing.

As I remember there is a type of Empire Knights who crusaded in Tilea who returned worshipping some Sun God.

The entry in the end of the book "The WORLD of Warhammer" (I love this damn thing, it's old, like really old, but beatiful) for Tilea simply states:

"TILEANS
Human inhabitants of Tilea, a country renowned for its traders and explorers. Tilea enjoys good relations with the Empire and its crossbowmen are often found in the ranks of the Emperor's army."

Oh and on the map of 'The Old World' the cities of Tilea (major ones) are:
-Sartosa (on an island)
-Miragliano (just east of the Skavenblight)
-Remas (along coast of the Tilean Sea, south of Miragliano)
-Luccini (between Sartosa in the furthest south and Remas to it's north, also along coast)
-Tobaro (can't tell if it's technically in Estalia or not, but it's on the other side of the Tilean Sea)

For further stuff I'd look both into the Knights of the Empire, and Mordheim (I think somewhere along the way they were mentioned), also at the Conquistadores that are in the New World. Oh and the Dogs of War stuff!

Cheers!

i find the idea of converting lizardmen intriguing, but considering they revert to a freal state when not around slaan, who would never abandon their religion, it is a bit odd. Tell me more about it.

Best source book is Tome of Salvation - the WFRP book.

Its got complete details of every religion and cult in the old world, where they're based, where their main centres of worship are, etc.

Its currently one of the books in print from Fantasy Flight Games if you want a copy.

While you sleep, they'll be waiting...

Have you thought about the Axis of Evil pension scheme?
