We just released our latest game mat today: Dirt Planet
Dirt Planet mats are specifically designed for those gamers who want to play on a Mars-like environment, but not like the traditional red Mars gaming mats. Dirt Planet mats are designed to resemble NASA photos of Mars, but could be any planet in any distant star system. These mats are available with or without craters, and with or without hex/square grids.
Information Page: http://www.hotzmats.com/mat_1-dirt_planet.html
We also produce a Moonscape (Lunar) game mat, which can be viewed here:

(Note: photo is of a flat, felt game mat; airbrushed artwork creates a 3D illusion)

Very nice indeed, I intend on getting one of your deep space mats for my BFG fleet in a couple of months, just trying to decide on the colour variant.

The Deep Space mat is indeed nice, with rich colors.
The moonscape and dirt planet mats are convincingly "3D".

Odd. When I first looked at that picture the craters looked like raised beads not indented craters. After looking at the other pictures on the site they now look like craters.

Is there anyone on Dakka who owns one of these and can speak about its quality? They look nice and I'd like to get one, but I've had bad experiences with felt mats. They tend to snag bases and get a bit rough after a few months of use.

Cool products, I use similar ones for several years (Western Town and European Fields). I prefer them to other solutions like ROB. The sand mat that was most heavily used with lots of terrain shows a bit of pilling now, but I guess I can remove it with standard clothing tools. And the ROB would show signs of usage as well, for the price of 4 different Hotz mats.
The Hotz Mats are 72x45", so a tad smaller than standard. The Dirt Planet mat costs 35.99 $ without craters and 49.99 $ with craters plus postage. Make sure to order them with the correct size and without hex grid though

Didn't they say they could do 72"x48" but it would be more expensive?

The felt we use now, according to our supplier, will out last the felt we used to use. We switched exclusively to the new felt last summer.
We switched over to the newer felt with our Desert/Western Town mats in December 2008, whereas our Earth Green/European Fields mats were always the newer felt. All felt will pill at some point, especially if it is not handled or stored properly, but the felt we are currently using resists pilling and is probably the best felt on the market place.

Seems I have the old felt on the Western mat, the European one shows no pilling, but I only use them for Fantasy Games which are rarer.

That's right, as you can get those mats also in 72x90" "Apocalypse" size, for a price
