Wondering what the reasoning behind not letting BA Captains, libbys and Reclusiarchs take artificer armour. Every other Marine codex allows their HQs to take it (maybe not SW but they're weird) so does anyone know why GW removed it?

They figured by not giving the option of 2+ the space vampires would be balanced?

Seems an odd bit of balancing

Just made it not worth having a captain at all-take a librarian. It costs only a little bit more and is 500% better

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

some things codex marines get, some the space wolves and blood angels get. like replacing the ironclad dreadnought with furioso dreadnought and artificer armor with runic armor.

BA do ahve artificer armour, all their SCs ahve it, just none of the unamed HQs can get it

Some stuff I can understand, like hellfire rounds, digital weapons, even relic blades, but I don't get why Captains don't get access to things BA characters already have, like artificer armour and glaive encarmines

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

I kind of believe its a balancing issue. You pay through the nose for special characters, and Sanguinary Guard are not cheap either.

However, with the absolute ease that it is to give any unit FNP, I think they decided to draw the line at even more multi wound 2+ save, FNP models.

Its nice that BA had to give up somethings to get all of their fancy new toys. Just like SW actually gave up a ton of stuff for theirs as well.

I would have to agree that 2+4+fnp is like having your cake and ramming it down the throat of your opponent.
Just a bit over the top and pretty much unnecessary. BA Hqs are good, and if you had the choice for artificer everyone would be screaming vitriolic rage about how OP blood angels are. oh wait there already is a large group of people who spew that kind of sentiment about blood angels!

I don't think artificer armour makes them any more OP, the SCs and Sanguinary guard already have it and they can get the FNP as well.

If anyhting it just solidifies me wanting to take OP special characters, because the only non-SC HQ thats any good in the Librarian.

Yeah but Scs and SG are very high in points cost. so the ability to have those saves comes at a premium
Yes I do agree that it encourages you to take the SCs more if all you're looking for is an armour save.
But I don't get why you don't see the use of a reclusiarch or captain when you can stick them in a squad and their save is irrelevant because you're going to be avoiding taking wounds on them with the other squad members
