Well, about to go on a boring 12 hour work shift, with absolutely nothing going to happen. so stripped a few older metal models (last chancer female, first and only female, and catachan grenade launcher female) to paint them during that time. Also, picked up the poison ivy crew pack. going to paint that up during the time.

From yesterday, I only finished the test model for my DZ team done but got some good work in on the Enforcers.

Today, hopefully I will finish my Enforcers, prep more convicts, work on a Prussian Steam Tank and work on a Medic for a German Bolt Action Army... But like yesterday I'll probably get the urge to play Long War xcom.

Today i'll be finishing assembly on 6 more Witch Elves, and then playing with some test colors ... my high elves are Marcharius solar orange, and a deep but electric blue (for trim, mostly), with white and bright silver metallics toned with turquoise + armor wash. For the new Eternity king stuff, i want to subtly work purple into that, without breaking the overall motif, so i'll be messing around with some paint schemes to try to make that happen.

Today I've been modifying some non-FFG Star Wars models to work with X-wing. I haven't been able to get hold of the official Falcon or Slave1 expansions, so I'm using these instead. The Falcon is from Ravell, it's a pretty nice model that clips together without glue. It comes pre-painted but I gave it a quick wash to dirty it up more. I think it's a touch smaller than the FFG falcon, but still a good stand-in for someone who doesn't have one. After all, it's not really Star Wars without Solo and the Millennium Falcon. The Slave1 is from DeAgostini, I like the scale, but it's solid diecast metal so it weighs a ton (like one of the old metal dreadnoughts). The two models cost me a little under £20, which isn't too bad. The other ships are FFG which I included for scale.

For the bases, I found some laser-cut MDF squares. Which are the perfect size. They were super cheap too (I think they're supposed to be coasters). I made the falcon's stem out of an old paintbrush handle, I was able to carve the top so the ship can slot on without glue (looks quite snazzy). The Slave1's stem needed to bend a bit to go in the back, so I used a piece of steel rod. I haven't finished them yet. I still need to print out more suitable base inlays, and maybe stick little bumps on the front for measuring. Then all I need to figure out is how I'm going to accomplish the movement dials! *sigh* -- The FFG prices sure seem a lot more reasonable when you factor in all these extra little bits that you don't have to make!

Some more pictures:

Well obviously there would be copyright issues with reproducing the FFG cards. So I couldn't possibly advocate that on Dakka. However, I have seen Photoshop templates online for creating custom cards to fit with x-wing. I'm not sure what FFG's position would be on that.

Regardless, the stats on the cards aren't exactly secret. You don't really need the physical cards themselves to be able to play, so long as you know what's in your list and the rules for it. I'll probably print some kind of cards out anyway for reference. Once I put them in card sleeves they'll feel and work the same as my real cards.
