I thought he was the list that you just get all shredders.

Q: How many of a specific demographic group are required to carry out a simple task?
A: An arbitrary number. One to carry out the task in question, and the remainder to act in a manner stereotypical of the group.

What point level are you playing at? And what armies do you expect to run against?

What models do you already have?
I'd take Typhon, a couple of shredders, Then probably a Seraph or Teraph or Nephlium Bolt Thrower, and a unit of warmongers with the chieftain.
Maybe start with that and work with it a few times and see what else you need.
Might need a forsaken... maybe not.

Don't forget about a scythean. It's great for anything that is tough. Also, look to expand your spell list with a diverse set of beasts.

Im still new to LoE myself ibeen running pThag, definatly pick up a typhon and scythean, maybe a nef bolt thrower or 2. I run warspears. My other suggestion is the forsaken. They help with the fury and lay waste to enemy infantry. With eThags id say typhon and lots of shredders

I don't know what I was thinking. A Seraph should be your very next purchase. Slipstream is just too good. Extra threat range, extricating a model from melee, getting that perfect angle for an assassination run The list is endless. Plus, a Seraph is really good on its own. I've killed many a caster by a well place strafe. And you can take out infantry pretty reliably.

There is a pretty informative post on the Privateer forum that I used to make my first Legion purchases.
Starting Legion
Everyone in this thread has given good suggestions, though it really just depends on which Thagrosh. eThagrosh plays differently than pThagrosh, and what you'll want for them is different.
In general, the starting models for Legion should be a Seraph as it's a beast you'll get use out of with a variety of casters (since you will probably want to switch things up from just Thagrosh eventually), and some form of fury control (either Forsaken, or Shepherds). If I was doing things over I'd have probably bought a Scythean before an Angelius or Typhon, but I didn't really like the look having only seen it in pics and never in person, and liking the models is an important thing for me. After that it's just a matter of picking up an infantry unit, I bought Striders, which I've seen recommended a lot, but I also see Swordsman recommended, and finally just coming down to buying toward the specific lists you want to run.
That thread and in general the Legion forums are pretty helpful to new players as there is a lot of good information.

I would switch between pthag and ethag and thanks eveyone for suggestions. Quick question...When you get the beast cards they tell you the amount of fury 2 and then next to that in a iittle circle it says threshold 7 what does the threshold mean i am confused by this

That's the stat you take your check against if you leave fury on a beast at the end of the control phase. 2d6+1 for each fury still on the beast, and if you roll over it they frenzy.
