I've done so many of these threads recently, but here goes nothin...

I'm off to an Escalation tournament next weekend, and I don't know what to bring (again). Any of the options will take me all of next week to get ready, so I need to decide quick. The tournament features 500pt, 1000pt and 1250pt games. Usual Escalation rules apply, so the 500pt army must be used as-is, no changes, as the first 500pts of your 1000pt army, and so on. All FW armies are allowed, but no flyers or superheavies.

I was planning to take Empire Militia Guard, and run them in powerblobs with lots of heavy weapon team support, but it turns out that half the people going are taking Guard anyway, so I'm feel like I should take something different. I was also thinking of Squats, but they're basically Guard too. I just did two tourneys with Daemons, so I don't want to take them. There are already a few Marine and CSM armies. So...

TAU - My lovely yellow Tau are a recent repainting project, so it would be nice to show them off, but they seem seriously underpowered at 500pts.

ARBITES - As a witchhunters force, or using the BOLS fandex. I still can't squish as much as I'd like in, and they lack anti-tank, which isn't great when half the opposition are taking Guard...!

HARLEQUIN/DARK ELDAR - With Mimes as wyches? Harlequins are pretty pricey in points, though - not sure I'll get much.

SPACE WOLVES - Using my Interchangeable Space Marines - apparently they're pretty powerful, though I've never played them. It would be a week's job to build the army, but a fun project

BLOOD ANGELS - Using my Interchangeable Space Marines - same as above, I like the idea, but I've never use them before. You don't get much at 500pts....

NECRONS - Would be a quick army to get up and running, but again, I have never played them before and wouldn't know where to start with the list...

Actually, I guess this comes down to - "which of the above armies could do well against Guard at 500, and hold their own against CSM and Marines"

I vote DE. That should be able to tear apart the IG that everyone else is bringing fairly nicely.

Man, I wish there was a real Black Library where I could get a Black Library Card and take out Black Library Books without having to buy them. Of course, late fees would be your soul. But it would be worth it. - InquisitorMack

Crons!!!!

If you win with them, you bask in glory!

Wolves would be my real suggestion if you ware trying to win =)

But all of your armies look awesome so I am sure whatever you do will be cool. Be sure to include pics of the force you put together.

The one that loses to any army fielded by a MOD.

(Necrons, if only for variety's sake. Plus I think the current Necron book will/would kick ass against DE, especially goold old destroyer spam).

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

Space Wolves is the best option on that list.

You're not the only one, I'm still trying to decide if I should bring my Siege Regiment or my Drop Troops, I'm finally feeling the pain from the escalation rules in both armies

Thanks everyone

@ Reecius

Thanks, I'll do a little week-long blog for whatever it ends up being...

@ Reds8n

Is destroyer Spam really possible at such low points levels? The best I could come up with was..

3 Destroyers
3 Destroyers
10 Warriors

(500)

Then

Lord, Destroyer, Res Orb
10 Warriors
10 Warriors
3 Destroyers
3 Destroyers
3 Destroyers
Monolith

(1250)

Don't know if 3 Destroyers are surviveable, but then I don't really know the Codex at all!

or go for horde Necrons?

Lord, Res Orb
10 Warriors
10 Warriors

(500)

10 Warriors
7 Scarab Swarms
Monolith

(1000)

7 Scarab Swarms
3 Tomb Spyders

(1250)

Absolutely no idea if this is any good....!
