I think one of the hardest armies to get awesome are Grey Knights. It is a very simple scheme, but cannot be done simply.

Tyranids aren't that hard, you just can't focus on the gaunts.

I'd say eldar for all the detail, though doing a really good ork scheme can be hard too (rust and metal effects).

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

Grey Knights. Orks and Nids are easy as you can simply speed paint the mass numbers of troops to a good standard pretty quickly and easily

Orks are the most time consuming, all the numbers and rust effects are incredibly annoying. With skill i'd say any white color scheme or painting Tau with all the sept markings. Those straight lines are absolute murder for me

Bretonnians. Freehand heraldry on every knight and cavalry? Sheesh.

Of course, you don't HAVE to paint them that way, but really? Fantasy knights should have fantasy heraldry, not two colors and a transfer.

Ya but you have to do that with every Grey knight, plus gold embroidering, with purity seals and books all over the place. in the end it can take upwards of 7 hours per Grey knight, if your fast.... (painting at medium quality level that is)

I think Brettonians would be harder imho.

Orks. They have a crap-ton of little details on the tunics which are a pain to paint, unlike Space Marines whom are a block of color with some minor changes. Then there's the fact that there's tons of orks.

It's also difficult to paint their vehicles since they aren't just all Blue or all Green like Space Marine vehicles. You're not sure if they're wooden or metal parts, whether to paint them one color or make them look metal/wooden and weathered. Everything needs to look weathered/worn which is also harder than just solid color.

So far, for me, its been a toss up between Ogre Kingdoms, and Imperial Guard..

Before folks go jumping on the flame wagon, hear me out. The Ogres DO have small numbers, yes. But for me, that just means that each one has to have a better quality paint job. Not to mention all the rust effects that everyone in the army has.

Guard should be fairly self explanatory.. i have just over 90 models over 1 HQ and 2 Troop choices to paint, not to mention, the vehicles for everyone. The saving grace i have with the guardsmen, is that i am using the Wargames Factory "Greatcoat Shock Troops"
