I was thinking of making a Grey Knights army and wanted to know if people thought it was worth it. When is the new codex supposed to be coming out? It would stink to make an army of them just for new models and rules to come out. Thank you

yes. wait. apparently it's gonna be march until they are released. I was going to do one during the summer hols, but then I heard about the new codex- I'm doing a WIP BA raven guard army in the meantime.

Of course, although the updated codex is coming out soon we don't know what models are going to be redone. People may be willing to part with their older models very cheaply. Could be a time of opportunity. Personally though, shrike speaks wisely.

They won't be in March as that's O&G stuff for fantasy. It would be an alright idea to pick some stuff up like the current Terminators as they look cool and you'll likely use them anyway.

Take a look for some deals to be had with folks unloading their armies. If you can find something that strikes you're fancy, you'll not be too far wrong to pick it up, especially if it's largely Grey Knight and their vehicles.

In terms of new kit, I'd probably limit the stuff you pick up to the bare minimum of what you want to paint prior to the new book coming out.

if you want to start it wouod be safe to buy some PA and TAGKs.

my reccomendation is to get Psycannons as the specail weapons for these guys.

PAGKs and TAGKs will definitly be useful and the metal models are just sweet.

once the Codex and accompanying plastics are released you can buy those for any new wargear upgrades that might appear.

Psycannons will be awsome. just awsome. Psykers and MEQs beware.

NFWs will change, but in a good way.

Overall, the codex has ties with Anti-demon, in that they have abilities against them, however, they will be more or less effective against other armies than they are now.

I enjoy my GK/Inq right now, however, they need a new codex. Though 'Crons and Sisters are the only two who are older at this point, and this update to our 'dex will likely interfere somewhat with the Sisters Codex.

If we are able to keep our Storm Shields and Thunder Hammers, then they will be updated. Statelines will be changed. New units will be added. ETC.

It will be April or May until the release. But as it is a complete overhaul of an old 3rd edition Codex with a complete new range of miniatures (a.o. plastic Grey Knights and terminators), you are well advised to wait until then.

of course that was a couple months ago so things could have changed.

to be honest the metal models are ace and when people start ebaying them off for the new stuff i would buy in bulk, cos the look cool and are easy to strip.

as long as the still have nemisis force weapons and storm bolters (i don't see them changing them) the only real difference between the old and new ones will be that the new ones will be easier to convert

the biggest change is that there will be 2 kinds of NFWs

Normal and Halbards.

the normal will follow the rules for NFWs, the Halbards will be an upgrade that is +2 Str in addition to the normal benifits.

...Wait. Isn't the rule for NFWs that they give the wielder +2 str?

Yes, thats the current rules.

new rules are

NFWs are hand weapons that, If the squad/model wielding them passes a Psychic test at the beginning of the Assault phase will count as Force weapons(Power weapon causing ID)

Nemisis Halbards have the above rule and add +2 Str.

Agreed.

Also, as good as the current minis are, the new ones will likely be even better.

Get some oldschool ones unless you're broke. it will put some variation in your army. and add some of that "oldschool" flavour everybody loves!
