i say yes he is. i mean cmon, every bone in the mans body is crushed, hes bleeding from everywhere, and on top of all that an orbital bombardment is raining down on top of his friggin head. i say even the super bad Loken didnt make it out of that one, what are your toughts Dakka?
Possibly, remember he is in a fortress, which would protect from an orbital bombardment ok if he's deep enough, and the Astartes resilience could do the rest.
Even so, he couldn't have lasted long afterwards. After all, there was an Exterminatus beforehand. Meaning not much food due to lack of any for of life. He could've been trapped under rubble too.

Dan Abnett knows. he has said that 'rumors of his death have been greatly exaggerated' in a youtube clip i saw a while ago, would find you the link but its midday here and i still haven't slept.

Lokens not dead, he is blatantly gonna be part Of Garro's dirty dozen/ A-team group. I just wish Skrall had survived Battle for the Abyss, he would have made a good addittion, and whats happened to Iacton Qruze?

Self-proclaimed evil Cat-person. Dues Ex Felines
Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.
While Loken will IMO more likely than not show up in a later HH novel I would like to think that he died on Istavaan.
Not that I didn't like the character mind you, but rather I saw his as the representation of the idealism of the uncorrupted Luna Wolves and the dream of a united mankind.
His death would be symbolic in that it is the death of innocence and helps to usher in (in my mind anyways) the future of uneding war and strife.
It cheapens his sacrafice and character if they bring him back. I say let the man rest in peace and don't cheapen a piece of decent writing with a "He wasn't actually dead!" bit.
I have to agree with unforgiven saint, tho I would really like him to still be alive it would kill his whole dieing for those ideals that made us root for him and all the other loyalist(if your an IoM person of course .

Rylanor was last seen descending into a secret chamber (a hanger i think). The dread' that self detonated was a death guard dread' who was caught out in the virus bombing. He had suffered what would usually have been considered an insignificant wound but it ment that he was unable to properly seal his armour against the virus.
From a story point of view I would rather he was dead. But they have left it open for him to be alive.
When the HH series ends and i go back and reread them all its going to spoil that book a bit if he turns up alive later on. That final stand was my favourite bit of the series so far (and probably my favourite bit in a 40k novel)
Now this thread got me thinking about who from the HH series so far would make it to Garro's super elite strike team. It'd be better than creating a bunch of new characters from scratch imo.
So far we got:
Spoiler:
Loken
Ancient Rylanor
Saul Tarvitz, well though his death wasn't spelt out in black and white, I think he's dead
Battle for the Abyss, hmm no one made it out
Nemesis, none of the assassins survived iirc The DA books, don't think anyone there's worth it =p
Mechanicum? The 2 Knights who survived?
A Thousand Sons, any of the Wolves might make the cut?
Legion, don't think anyone here qualifies. Unless the Geno Chiliad is miraculously saved and become the forerunners of stormtroopers, but that's too deus ex machina for me
I can't think of anything! Someone help me out lol.
The only other thing I can think of is a very minor, passing reference to the 'black armored sergeant' who led the desperate Raven Guard breakout that saved the unconscious Corax from death. It was just a couple of sentences in the book but the imagery really struck me. Now that guy sounds like a total bada$$, saving his Primarch from certain death!

So if Garro is after one MARINE from each legion...
The only two i can think of are the two major captains lost on Istvaan. I expect that the others will be specifically created for the story just like Garro's first target.
I find it interesting that Garro and other possible inclussions are not psykers but then again they are to be the head and not the body of the sigilite's new force.
I think he is dead and behind enemy lines so to speak, so chances of him returning should be minimal. That having been said, there is dead and there is mostly dead, and he may just be the later, if the folks at Black Library need him to return I expect a miraculous recovery and a suitably ridiculous public outcry by "outraged" fanboys.
He was a great character and he "died" in a relatively heroic fashion so they should leave him dead, but I do not think they will.
While I agree that him being alive kinda cheapens the sacrifice at Istvaan, I see that as more Saul's thing, he's the one that stood up and took command of the loyalist forces despite his superiors saying he could never be more than a line officer. Toragadon (yea idk how to spell it) was basically executed by a close friend, showing just how far gone the traitors were and if they bring back Loken he'll probably be pissed at the traitors and out for revenge.

He should be dead, it's stretching credibility too much for him to be alive, what's the point of exterminatus if something can survive?
Automatically Appended Next Post: If that's the case then all those planets wiped out to get rid of nid infestations are probably still infested with nids, just the nids have nothing to eat and are waiting for a meal to land.
